Customer Review Summary
Steak draws the most praise, with a sirloin cooked medium to perfection, a fillet steak sandwich, and a family table of eight adults calling the steaks great. Close behind are fish and chips, described as equally good, and a beef in ale pie with tender beef that melted in the mouth. Starters of pulled pork tacos and fresh prawns were called excellent, and the chicken parmigiana came juicy under melted cheese. Reviewers also describe friendly, quick service even when the room was busy, plus a fireplace and folk-style decor. The complaints are specific. The bruschetta caprese arrived with barely a hint of cheese, the fries were called not flavourful, and one diner wanted more seasoning on the fish and the salad cut into smaller pieces. One visitor found a packed car park and was shooed away from a space beside the building, though no signs said parking was prohibited. Another felt the staff seemed busy and tired. Desserts get repeated praise, and sticky toffee pudding is the one named by a reviewer.

“We arrived and we got a very warm welcome, they were patient when we needed some extra time to decide what to drink. Then we got our drinks and they were amazing!!! The menu was lovely with lots to choose from, we then had some laughs while we waited on the food. Talking about the food WHOAH! we loved it! The dessert menu was also good, we had a diffecult time choosing. In the end we had some good laughs with the server when we made the suggestion tot have a guy named Bill bring us the bill. 10/10 experience they were very very nice tot us Belgians folks. :D”

“The struggle for parking is definitely not the best mood before a meal. On Sunday, the entire parking lot was packed. We tried to park on the side of the building, where there was a free parking space, but a woman ran out of the building and shooed us away, saying that parking was prohibited (there were no signs). But we kept looking, but there was no space on the street, so we drove into the adjacent housing estate, worried that the situation would repeat itself. The parking rules aren't so obvious to foreigners; perhaps the situation wouldn't be as stressful for Scots. At the entrance, I was asked about a reservation, which we didn't have, but they kindly allowed us to use a table for an hour. We didn't need more, as the kitchen was very quick to fill up, so we made it within an hour. As for the service itself, the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. The speed, friendly approach, and beautiful presentation of the food made you feel right at home. Both the food and the bill were delivered promptly, which is very important. The restroom The chill in the restroom creates an interesting contrast to the warmth of the pub itself. Taking off your pants on a cold day is a challenge. There was no hot water either, I don't know if that's the norm or if we just happened to be there. And finally, the food itself. The showcase dish – beef in ale – was excellent… the beef was tender, perfectly prepared, not a trace of stringiness. No risk of chewing the meat, which even the strongest jaws can't handle. The beef simply melted in your mouth, and the whiskey gave it a truly unique flavor. The pie over the beef is really good, even for someone for whom beef in ale isn't a natural combination 😀 The fish in ale is very good, although I wouldn't call the Scots masters of cooking when it comes to spices. Fortunately, this type of fish is naturally good. Although seasoning could elevate this dish. It also wouldn't be bad if more work had been put into the salad. It's not even that it was dry, but it would have been nice to cut it into smaller pieces. I know you can cut them with your own knife, but it could be made easier. The decor and atmosphere. Fantastic. The fireplace, the warmth, the folk-historical decor. Just as befits the location (Stirling Castle is only nine minutes away). Overall, I highly recommend it.”
