About Coasters
Coasters is an English restaurant at 12 Queen St in Southwold, where tables sit inside colourful beach huts at the rear and each party controls its own heating or air conditioning. The main room has wood panelling and a wood-clad bar. The menus are Modern British and built around local produce, with fish and chips and a coronation chicken sandwich among the dishes. Seafood has a place too, from local catches to a seafood platter, salt and pepper squid and whitebait. Reservations are required, and the beach huts can be booked. For birthdays and anniversaries, the team can dress the table with confetti or sequins and add a personalised postcard. Dogs are welcome. The kitchen also accommodates dietary needs, including low salt, gluten free and food intolerances.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to talk about the beach huts, the private outdoor pods and booths where several celebrated birthdays and anniversaries and received a confetti table setting or a personalised post card. Reviewers describe the huts as heated, with a blanket, Bluetooth speaker and WiFi, and one says the temperature is under their own control. Close behind is the seafood and fish: fish and chips, scampi, salt and pepper squid, whitebait, cured salmon, tempura prawns and a seafood platter. The coronation chicken sandwich, sausage and mash, affogato with amaretto and sticky toffee pudding also get praise. Service is repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and a few say staff handled low salt, gluten free and other intolerance needs. Several say booking is essential. The one critical review calls the menu limited and the seafood expensive for food that was nothing special, and notes that not every dish appears on the menu displayed outside. Others call the menu small but perfectly prepared. One reviewer was handed a card with their celebration message on arrival.

“The best place to eat in central Southwold, we've been going here for years and have never been disappointed. Lovely food well presented and very pleasant staff too. I think you'll definitely need a reservation, says it all really. Recommended.”

“We booked one of the beach huts at Coasters for a celebration meal, and the whole experience was absolutely fantastic! The waitress was friendly & welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. We even got a congratulations post card from the staff which was a lovely touch. As regular visitors to Southwold, we will certainly be returning to this beautiful little restaurant. Thanks a million!”

“Excellent food and service. Helped me select low salt options to meet my requirement. We really enjoyed eating in the 'beach huts' at the rear of the main property (fully heated or air conditioned under your own control). Thoroughly recommend. Returned and now going gluten free and again we're helpful and food delicious 😋”

“What a fabulous experience! We had lunch at Coasters today and really enjoyed every aspect of our meal. The cured salmon and tempura prawns starters were exceptional. For mains we had fish and chips, which was the exact right amount of crispy, scampi&chips which was delicious, sausage and mash which had the most luscious mash and excellent onion rings, and the coronation chicken sandwich, which was wonderful. For dessert my husband and I had the affogato with a shot of amaretto which was a fantastic way to end the meal. The service was outstanding. All in all, a super experience. Thank you so much!”

“Limited Menu Southword is an expensive place. There are very limited restaurants available. All of them are crazily expensive. The menu of this restaurant is very limited. Not everything is available in the menu outside. It's the menu afteryou get seated rules. There were free WiFi available. It's a good news because Southword has very poor signal. The Southword public WiFi is not working. There were some cool looking outdoor tables. Several beach hut design for each table. Table and seats inside a colourful beach hut. The food was not a wow compared to the prices. Seafood dishes are not cheap to order in the UK. Unfortunately there was nothing special the food. I think Southword is not an ideal place for day trip. It is more a place for tourists to rent a air BnB with kitchen. Cooking in the air BnB rather than looking for restaurants.”
