Quick info
About Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach is a modern European restaurant on Eastern Esplanade in Southend On Sea, set in a glass dining room that looks out over the Thames Estuary. A deck terrace extends that view, and heaters keep it usable through the winter. The menu runs from breakfast and brunch through the day, with tapas alongside main plates such as fish and chips and seabass. A cocktail list sits next to the food for those who want a drink with the view. The restaurant takes walk-ins, so guests can arrive without a booking.

Customer Review Summary
Fish dishes anchor the praise, with fish and chips mentioned most, alongside a seabass that one reviewer found beautifully presented and well balanced, and a skate in a big portion that another found a little heavy on garlic. Close behind are the cocktails, singled out by several diners, with the ocean burger, a picado and the tapas also named. Breakfast and brunch on the terrace bring comments on sea views, and one reviewer mentions terrace heaters in winter while another credits the efficient air conditioning during a heat wave. Staff are described as friendly and quick, and the room as light and airy. Prices are the recurring caveat. Several reviewers call them high or on the upper end, though a few put that down to the seafront location and generous portions. One diner reports a forgotten glass of wine, no check on the food once it arrived, no dessert menu offered, and sauce sachets on the tables that made the restaurant feel like a cafe, yet still plans to return.

“Good place to be in during the hear wave as Aircon is very efficient :-) Service was quick, waitress polite. Food, skate was a big portion of food, may be too big for some. Food is tasty, if anything maybe there was too much garlic, but that is individual preference. I would recommend Ocean Beach, one of the best place at the sea front.”

“We went to Ocean Beach on a Friday morning to enjoy our breakfast at 10am but the restaurant was packed. Food is amazing at reasonable price, coffee is also good too. No wonder why so many people go there even on a Friday morning.”

“We had breakfast on the terrace. Service was nice . Lady who directed us to table and took our order was very friendly and smiley. Food was very nice and arrived quickly. Cocktails were good too. We were lucky it was a high tide and a sunny morning so we had an amazing sea view. We enjoyed our breakfast 😉.”

“The food is absolutely beautiful. I havent seen food this beautiful - as in aesthetically pleasing - in a long long time. My eyes were happy before the seabass even hit my taste buds. This on top of the flavour profile being well balanced. And the portions are generous. The prices were a bit high when we looked at the menu, but I understood why the second we received our meals. Amazing food. Great value for money. Staff is friendly and delivers quickly. I had my meal at peak busy time. We only waited maybe 15 minutes. Which is more than reasonable. Pictured: fish and chips, ocean burger and fresh seabass.”
