About House of Biryani
House of Biryani is a South Indian and modern Indian restaurant on Backfields in Sheffield, open daily on a walk-in basis. Customers are permitted to bring their own wine or beer, an option worth planning around before arrival. The menu runs from chicken and dum biryani, including a fried piece chicken biryani, through to chicken and egg curry thalis and chicken kadai. Dosas come filled with lamb, paneer, or chicken, served with peanut sauce and curry sauce on the side, alongside naan. The kitchen is run by a small team, so dishes are cooked to order rather than held ready. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome in the restaurant. Food is also available for takeaway or collection, and orders can be placed through Uber Eats for those eating off site.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the thalis and biryanis, with the chicken curry thali and egg curry thali singled out for generous portions, chicken that fell off the bone, and a lot of flavour. Close behind, the dum biryani and chicken biryani are called flavourful and fresh, and the dosas (lamb, paneer and chicken) come with a peanut sauce and curry sauce on the side that diners say balance them. Several describe the food as different from a typical curry house, with plenty for vegetarians. Complaints are real, though. One reviewer found the Hyderabadi biryani masala had tomato pieces and heavy onions, with chilli heat that upset their stomach. Another received a Fried Piece Chicken Biryani with only two small pieces of chicken and several fried bits resembling pakoras. A third says a cancelled delivery order was never refunded. One reviewer warns of a wait with only two people in the kitchen, and a few note takeaway orders were packed well and ready promptly.

“I ordered the Fried Piece Chicken Biryani and was very disappointed. It came with only two tiny pieces of chicken, along with 6–7 small fried pieces that looked like pakoras rather than chicken. This was not what I expected from a chicken biryani. The taste was also below average, I paid £12.99, which is absolutely not worth the price. Unfortunately, I won’t be visiting this place again.”

“Authentic and tasty South Indian food. We had chicken biryani which was very flavourful and fresh, chicken kadai which was delicious and dosas and naan. Service was good and food was great value. Highly recommended to anyone wanting something a bit different to the usual curry houses.”

“Had a takeout. The food was excellent, truly a cut above. It was also ready for collection promptly.”

“Food is good but I had ordered from Uber eats once and restaurant cancelled my order due to no Uber eats delivery guys to their restaurant and said I would get my refund but I never got it. From Uber eats the refund time was within 48hrs and I still never got my refund for my canceled order. Poor service from restaurant.”

“I ordered biryani from this place yesterday and it was a let down, consider they advertise themselves as Hyderbadi biryani. Although the flavor was quite nice, the biryani masala had pieces of tomatoes (which authentic hyderabadi biryani doesn't have) and there were a lot of onions, not barista, which explains the flavor profile. The amount of heat from chilli can be unbearable for some, and it has upset my stomach a bit so I'd be careful if I was ordering from here. The rice itself wasnt mushy so thats one positive. Chicken pieces had skin on, which is a no go for me but personal opinion. I've tried Faheem's biryani in Leeds and that's miles better just because they say its hyderbadi biryani and it does taste like it. Now the beauty of India is flavor changes from region to region, so a hyderabadi biryani can have different definitions. Although I prefer the generally accepted definition and this was far from that.”
