Quick info
About Mowgli Street Food Sheffield
Mowgli Street Food Sheffield is an Indian restaurant at 631 Ecclesall Rd, open daily. The dining room has swing-seat tables and fairy lights. The menu is built around sharing, with small pots of different curries served alongside rice and chapati, so a table can try several dishes in one meal. Holy Chow puts curry inside bread, and Diwali Cauliflower and gunpowder chicken sit among the other plates. A full vegan menu runs alongside the rest, which gives vegan guests a complete set of dishes to choose from. A charity donation and a tip are added to the bill automatically, and diners can opt out of both.

Customer Review Summary
Most diners come for the sharing menus, which bring a run of small pots of different curries with rice and chapati, plus starters and a dessert such as caramel ice cream. Close behind is the vegan menu, where one reviewer worked through Diwali Cauliflower, Holy Chow (curry served in bread), slaw and twisted greens, then finished with coconut ice cream in a cone. Another names chat bombs as a favourite starter, and the gunpowder chicken gets credit for a tangy sauce. Reviewers also mention fairy lights, swing-seat tables and a lively yet comfortable room, with staff described as friendly and quick. The main criticism is flavour. Two reviewers found the food short on spice and complexity, citing a bland, soggy bhel puri and house lamb and paneer that felt unbalanced, and one who asked for Asian-style cooking was told it was not possible. Another found the automatically added charity donation and tip awkward to opt out of. Still, one group of four could not finish their menu and were offered takeaway cartons for the leftovers.

“The gunpowder chicken has a good sauce that’s nice and tangy. The house lamb and paneer are a bit unbalanced on flavour though. They lack the complexity of Indian food. The bhel puri was also a bit bland and soggy. They also automatically add a charity donation and tip to the bill that you need to opt out from which is really awkward and puts you on the spot”

“I tried Mowgli due to the thousands of Google reviews! I ordered via uber eats, the food comes well packed. However, for me the food lacked flavour and spice. If you're wanting food that's asain style. This is not the place. It's basic in flavour and spice, but I do understand why, as it's more for a general audience. I did ask if the food can be cooked asain style, but it was not possible.”

“We visited Mowgli Street Food and chose one of the sharing menus, which offered a great variety of curries and dishes to try. The food was excellent quality, very tasty, and there was plenty of choice, making it a great way to sample different flavours. Larissa was our waitress and provided friendly, attentive service throughout our visit. We also chose to sit at one of the swing-seat tables, which added a fun and unique touch to the experience. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, with beautiful fairy lights creating a warm and welcoming setting. Overall, we had a really enjoyable meal and would happily return for the delicious food, good variety, and excellent service.”

“Beautiful restaurant, really lovely staff team and the food was amazing. I've been to the Mowgli in Glasgow and although smaller, Sheffield did not disappoint. We will be back and have already recommended to to family & friends. Well done team Mowgli Sheffield!”

“Visited Sheffield for my birthday and we’re currently staying at the Hilton Sheffield. I’d heard of Mowgli Street Food before, as we have one in Nottingham, but had never actually dined there—so we decided to give it a try. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed and seated straight away, which set the tone for a great experience. We may have been slightly overambitious with our ordering, choosing far more dishes than we could realistically finish—but it was well worth it. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, and the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. Overall, a fantastic dining experience and one I’d happily recommend.”

“Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets. She was born to feed the raw need Indians have for tiffins full of fresh bright intense flavour. Mowgli is not about the intimate, hushed dining experience. It is about the smash and grab zing of healthy, light, virtuosic herbs and spices. The simple dishes of a Mowgli menu are a million miles away from the curry stereotype. These dishes convey the truth that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavour.”
