Customer Review Summary
Sunday roasts draw the most praise, with diners describing the sirloin beef and roasts with cauliflower cheese as tasty, generous portions. Close behind are the puddings, including the raspberry and white chocolate creme brulee, sticky toffee pudding, brownie and summer berry crumble. Reviewers also mention the goat burger, hunters chicken and butternut squash risotto, and several praise the lunch menu's two-course set options and vegetarian choices. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and attentive, and several note the dog-friendly seating, with treats and water brought for pets. The complaints are specific. One diner found the haddock greasy and not very flavourful, and another said both steak pies were overcooked, with a burnt, bitter pastry taste, and was told by the chef it was only gravy that had bubbled out. Another reviewer noted slow food and a forgotten lemonade. One reviewer said they booked a return visit for the following month.

“Went in with some colleagues while visiting the area for work. Easily got a table as walk-ins (19:15 on a weekday). Staff were friendly, and food was lovely. Two of us had butternut squash risotto, and the other had chicken fajitas. Nice atmosphere and in a good spot opposite the River Trent. Would definitely visit again.”

“We ate lunch at Take a Gander at Burringham today for my wife's birthday. We were recommended to this lovely pub on the side of the River Trent near Scunthorpe and we were very pleased with the quality of the food and the ambience. Very good portion sizes and well cooked food. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. We also briefly met some locals who were sitting outside near the entrance. They greeted us very nicely and they were still there as we left and again spoke to us and asked about our visit. We stayed chatting for quite a while and it was like meeting up with old friends. Thanks Debs and John for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be returning. A very enjoyable afternoon for us both.”

“Booked for anniversary lunch and had been recommended to go. The starter was very nice but both ordered steak pie for mains which would have been very nice if had not been overcooked to the point where the pastry had a burnt bitter taste. Which the chef had said it was just the gravy that came out the top of the pie while cooking instead of just accepting he had burnt them. So unfortunately will not be returning”
