Quick info
About The Oriental
Meal sets at The Oriental can be arranged buffet-style, which makes the kitchen a practical option for parties and birthdays as well as everyday orders. This Chinese takeaway sits on Frodingham Road in Scunthorpe and has been serving since the 1970s, with customers who have come back for more than 40 years. The menu runs through the familiar range, including chips, chicken balls and egg fried rice. Ordering is walk-in and done at the counter, where the same man takes the orders. Little about the place has changed over the decades. It opens in the evenings from Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers return for the food itself, calling it tasty, plentiful and consistently good, with several saying they have never had a bad meal. One long-standing customer cites more than 40 years of visits and a buffet set of meals for a 50th birthday that everyone called fantastic. A few name it the best Chinese takeaway they have had, and one calls it a decent place for a quick lunch. The counter draws the mixed comment. Several describe the man taking orders as brusque or rude, while others found him funny and helpful, and one says the food outweighs it. One reviewer regrets there is no delivery. The sharpest criticism comes from a two-star diner who found the chicken balls tasted of fish batter, the egg fried rice tasted boiled, the chips were like a chippy's and the place looked awful, though they credited the low cost of a meal for two. Another reviewer notes that a free nibble sometimes comes over the counter for those who are lucky.

“What can I say, the service was good, the food was tasty and will have to return just to make sure what I had could be replicated lol”

“Very average. Chips were like a chippy. Chicken balls were cooked in what tasted like fish batter. The egg fried rice tasted boiled. The place looked awful. Don't understand where all these rave reviews came from. The only thing that I gave the extra star for is the price, which was very cheap for a Chinese meal for 2. Infact less then £15, but I wouldn't eat there again.”
