Quick info
About The Watermark Cafe
The Watermark Cafe is a seaside cafe on Royal Albert Dr in Scarborough, with views across North Bay. Salads and vegetables come from the cafe's own farm, and the cakes are handmade without palm oil. The breakfast menu includes a full breakfast with gluten free and vegan options, plus breakfast butties, and the sausages and eggs are free range from local farms. Cakes and ice cream are sold at the kiosk. Customers order and pay at the till, with drinks arriving first and food following to the table. The cafe is walk-in, and a wait for food is common when it fills up. Dogs are welcome, provided they stay tucked in and keep their noses off the tables.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most praise at this North Bay cafe, especially the delicious full breakfast, with a gluten free version one couple came for and breakfast butties as an alternative. Close behind are the cakes, a decent cortado and tasty ice cream, and one reviewer came three times in two days. Reviewers call the food good value, and several find the staff friendly, with heated outdoor seating and sea views also mentioned. Service is the recurring weak spot. One diner chased a breakfast order three or four times on a busy Saturday with no warning of the delay, though the food was lovely when it came. Another notes counter queuing can be slow, and a longtime regular describes waiting at the counter while two staff looked on without acknowledgement. One couple's two flat whites arrived as milky lattes, the server said the two are about the same, and an offered extra shot did not fix the lack of taste.

“We love Watermark, and have been along four times this week for breakfast or coffee. Three of them have been brilliant experiences, and one terrible. Ordered breakfast at 11.02, and it finally arrived at 11.56 after chasing it up three or four times. The food was lovely when it came, but the communication was non-existent. Yes it's a summer Saturday, but if they knew delays were that long, why not do the professional and courteous thing and let customers know when they order, rather than just take their order and make them wait so long Moral of the story - great place when they're not busy, but expect a long, long wait when they are.”

“Wound up coming here three times in two days. Great selection of food, cakes and drinks. Decent cortado and very tasty ice cream. Sometimes feel like places like this don’t need to make an effort because of where they are but this one delivers.”

“Been using this Cafe for years on regular visits to Scarborough. Somthing has shifted gone are the friendly service with a smile staff. Unbelievably miserable. I stood at the counter on my own no que waiting to get served about 5 minutes whilst 2 staff unpaced orange juice and put cups away both looked at me but no acknowledgement not even a , With you in a minute. I almost left. The female staff member came to serve me she did not smile and was almost negative like I was an inconvenience. Food was great. Atmosphere was awful. I won't be going again.”

Highlights
“Come along and love being by the seaside at The Watermark Café! You will find a warm welcoming cafe with panoramic views of Scarborough’s North Bay. We offer fabulous cakes and coffee with a varied menu of breakfasts, meals and sandwiches. Our sausages and eggs are free range and supplied by local farms; our own farm provides salads and vegetables; our cakes are handmade without palm oil; and we have plenty of choices for vegetarians, vegans and all the little things you may want to be free from. Many items include organic ingredients. We are also dog friendly, the North Bay is a great place for walking. We just ask for dogs to be tucked in, keep noses off tables and to take care with other customers.”
