About Mr Chan's Restaurant

Mr Chan's Restaurant is a family-run Chinese restaurant at 21-23 North Rd in Saint Helens. The kitchen cooks dim sum alongside Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, with recipes the family has passed down across generations. A large, varied plant-based and vegan menu gives vegetarian and vegan diners plenty to choose from, and the extensive main menu includes gluten-free options for coeliac guests. The owner comes to the tables to introduce himself and talk guests through the menu. A bar lets guests have a drink while they wait for a table. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the huge chicken spring rolls, described as packed with fresh veg and bigger than expected. Close behind are the salt and pepper king prawn main, the Mongolian lamb called tender and flavourful, and crispy prawns paired with chilli oil. One diner praises the satay fillet steak. The menu draws repeated mentions for dietary needs: a coeliac diner and another gluten free guest were pleased by the extent of the choices, including shredded chilli beef, and two reviewers note the large vegan and plant based range. Several describe hot, flavourful food, and the kitchen adjusted for one table's spicy requests. Service is called attentive and friendly, with the owner visiting tables to talk guests through the menu. Reviewers also mention a spotless restaurant and a bar where one party had a drink while waiting for a table on a Saturday without a booking. No complaints appear in the reviews. One diner in a wheelchair says the table was arranged so they could stay in their chair, and another says their daughter loved the automatic door on the loos.

“Food was absolutely delicious! The Mongolian lamb is a must‑try — tender, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The surprise star was the crispy prawns: juicy, crunchy, and cooked to perfection. Add a bit of chilli oil and they become pure heaven!”
