About The Plough Inn
The Plough Inn is a pub and restaurant on The Roe in Saint Asaph, where dogs are welcome in the downstairs bar and on the beach hut terrace. Upstairs, the restaurant has an open kitchen and a vaulted ceiling. The same room hosts private gatherings and group functions, with a buffet offered. The menu includes fish and chips, and a soup and a pie of the day sit alongside the daily specials. Wainwright's is served on draught at the bar. Downstairs seating fills a large interior, with booths outside.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the main meals, with fish and chips and a crispy pork belly with mash, broccoli and gravy named as the dishes, and opinions on them split. Praise centres on food described as hot, tasty and cooked fresh, with a classic burger and the pigs in blankets with marrowbone gravy also singled out as good. Friendly staff and a spacious, nice atmosphere come up repeatedly, and the upstairs room suited two family gatherings after funerals, with one calling a basic buffet ample. The strongest complaints are about the kitchen. One diner found fish overcooked with lukewarm, soggy chips, another called a toddler's fish rubbery and undercooked, and a third got cheese on toast described as cremated. A reviewer said the pork belly wasn't crispy. Others note limited gluten free choices with no puddings, and drinks that felt overpriced. One returning customer was glad of a second try after an earlier disappointing meal, and one praised how food allergies were handled.

“We decided to give the Plough another try after a very disappointing meal a few months ago .. so glad we did , the food was very good , hot and tasty and served in a very reasonable time . Service was equally good .. we were asked many times if everything was ok and the girls are very friendly. Downstairs was busy and all the meals that came out looked tasty . We will definitely return. It’s definitely worth another try if you have been unhappy in the past”

“Service was good by the girls on tonight friday 4th September what let it down was there was limit gluten free options if hardly any no puddings at all available for gluten free just really poor choice over all for aligens even a simple gluten free pizza base would have done. We tried to give this place another go as before the two take overs the food was amazing unfortunately food is no better now its been taken over yet again simply because of that and limited aligen options we won't be coming back. Our toddler has fish and chips and the fish was horrible batter rubbery and under cooked tonight's food not worth what I paid”

“A mixed experience and disappointed with our mains. We were cheerfully shown to a table in a nice cosy alcove. We shared a starter of pigs in blankets with Chianti and marrowbone gravy. It was delicious, but we weren't given any cutlery to pick up the sausages with and dip in the gravy. They were very messy and awkward to eat with fingers. For mains we ordered fish & chips. The menu described the fish as a 'whale'. What arrived was an average, normal sized piece of fish, which was disappointing, more of a tiddler, than a whale. Maybe change the wording on the menu. My fish was overcooked and the batter was very brown, instead of golden. Plus, our chips had obviously been standing for ages after cooking, as they were lukewarm and soggy, going cold quickly. I did tell this to the waitress, asking her to please feed back to the kitchen, when she came to collect our plates. I also mentioned the same when paying the bill, as I was asked if the meal was ok. I got an excuse that the 'kitchen was very busy this evening'. Am afraid if you can't get the basics right on a simple meal when you're busy, it's not very inspiring. Also, every staff member kept addressing us as 'you guys' every time they spoke to us. It became irritating after a while and came over as false sincerity. The beer was good tho. They serve a nice pint of Wainwright's, so the cellar is well kept. Not sure if we'd go back for food, but might pop in for a drink.”

“Our family was in St Asaph for a funeral. We'd booked The Plough for a light lunch and to catch up. Beautiful pub inside, very spacious. Decor was excellent and the staff were extremely professional and friendly. At a difficult time the staff and atmosphere of the restaurant were just right. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for excellent food, service and atmosphere. If only more pubs and restaurants were so good.”

“Really pleased with the venue and service we received yesterday. We had a small group of about 30 following my mother's burial in the local cemetery. The majority of us parked here and then walked up to and back from the funeral. The upstairs room allowed for a quiet and private space for everyone to gather and share time together. Food was great too, had the basic buffet, but it was ample and everyone commented on how good it was. Thanks for making the day a little easier.”
