About Marino's Fish Bar - Rye
Marino's Fish Bar - Rye is a fish and chips takeaway at 37 The Mint in Rye, open daily, with an eat-in dining room and table service alongside the shop. Diners enter the dining room by a separate door next to the shop, and its tables by the window look onto the street. The cod and chips comes in small (kids), medium and large portions, and every meal includes hand cut chips. Mushy peas are available as a side, and a battered sausage can be ordered on its own. The dining room is small, and table service ends in the evening. Queues form on busy Saturday evenings, sometimes reaching out the door.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the cod and chips, describing the fish as fresh and flaky under a light, crunchy batter, with hand cut chips that several call crispy and hot. Close behind are the portions and the sizes on offer, with diners ordering medium or kids cod meals and finding them generous, and one takeaway customer noting a large and medium cod with chips and peas easily fed two adults and two toddlers. Service draws repeated praise as friendly and fast, and one reviewer says the host encouraged adding mushy peas, which came as a full portion. Some mention the window seating and the neighbourhood feel, though the room is described as cramped and noisy, with side doors that slam shut. Complaints are scattered: one reviewer found the chips dry and hard and the staff rude, another called the restroom dirty, and one wanted more hot sauce variety. Several mention queues, and one says pre ordering online meant the food was ready on arrival.

“Absolutely fantastic fish and chips. We ate in and everything was cooked perfectly. The fish was beautifully flaky, full of flavour and some of the best we've had. The chips were spot on too and the fish-to-chip ratio was perfect. We both had the medium cod and it was just the right portion size. The location in Rye is lovely and made for a great lunch and the staff couldn't have been more attentive. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and genuinely seemed to care that we had a good experience. We've had fish and chips in both Cornwall and even in New Zealand and whilst I'm no Gordon Ramsay, this place has to take the crown. It really was that good. Highly recommend if you're in Rye and looking for proper fish and chips. We'll definitely be back.”

“Dry hard chips, staff were rude but got the order right. Very mediocre meal.”

“Good value for the freshly made traditional battered fish and chips. The fish and chips meals came in different sizes, which I appreciated, as I chose the smaller size. The fish was tasty and the batter was light. Perhaps a bit of variety in hot sauces would have been nice. The service was excellent and everything was brought to the table hot and tasty. The atmosphere was cramped neighborhood style, and friendly. Would come here again.”

“Excellent Fish and Chips Shop and Restaurant. The stuff is fresh, you get a lot for your money and the service was really sweet and fast. Seems that also locals go there. One point I really had an issue with was the toilet. When things are old it is one thing but the restroom was dirty and needs a makeover.”

“Was on the hunt for an easy Saturday night take out and this did not disappoint. Ordered using their online form, and food was ready as I arrived - would highly recommend pre ordering as this is clearly a popular joint with queues almost out the door. We got a large and medium cod, with large chips and peas. This was easily enough for 2 adults and a couple of toddlers, so beware of over ordering with such big portions. Well cooked and v tasty.”
