About The Golden Ball
The Golden Ball is a gastropub and British restaurant on Turner Ln in Rotherham, with pine-clad walls, wood beams, and a log fire in the dining area. The Sunday roast, including a trio of meats option, is a recurring order, alongside ribeye steak and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The wider menu runs to 20 dishes, with fish and chips and sirloin steak among them, and beer on offer at the bar. Table service is assigned by table, and walk-ins are accepted, though booking ahead is recommended and a wait is common on Sundays. A free car park sits on site, and the beer garden provides outdoor seating. The entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs, dogs are welcome, and the pub opens daily. Food is also available for takeaway and delivery for those eating off site.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday dinner draws the most consistent praise, with the trio of meats and the rib eye steak singled out as standouts, and diners repeatedly describe staff as warm, attentive and willing to squeeze in tables even when the pub is packed. The log fire, cosy decor and free car park come up as pluses, and several note the beer and wine selection alongside a "fantastic pint." The kitchen isn't universally consistent, though: one reviewer detailed soggy triple-cooked chips, a dry, flavourless ham pie and boiled-rather-than-roasted potatoes on a Sunday lunch, and another found food arrived less than piping hot with the dining room uncomfortably cold that evening. A third mentions the sticky toffee pudding portion was too small. Even with those complaints, most reviewers say they'll return, with one contrasting a disappointing visit to a sister branch with a genuinely positive experience here.

“Warm and welcoming pub with a cosy atmosphere. Great for just drinks or drinks and food, with a great selection of both. Staff are always lovely and they can’t do enough for you”

“Great atmosphere & a fantastic pint. The kitchen is massively letting this place down. The Chef is getting the basics wrong (if you’re reading this, don’t get annoyed, feedback is a gift for business to improve). 2 adult main meals and we left most of it & went home to eat. Triple cooked chips - soggy oven chips Ham pie - mostly dry pastry and a flavourless filling of fatty lumps. Roast potatoes on the Sunday lunch appeared to be boiled rather than roasted. Rest of the vegetables were limp and flavourless. Any kitchen that can’t execute roast potatoes, chips or a pie needs a shake. Potential to be a cracking little pub if they get a professional in the kitchen or just someone’s nanna that knows the basics.”

“Sunday dinner at the Golden Ball was absolutely lovely. Even though it was incredibly busy, the wait staff went above and beyond to get us a table and squeezed us in. The drinks were nice and cold, the food was delicious — the trio of meats Sunday dinner was especially good and highly recommended. A huge shout-out to Gracie and Kenzie — both were so friendly, attentive, and made sure nothing was too much trouble despite how busy it was. Fantastic service all round. We’ll definitely be back!”

“Had a fantastic meal today on the valentines menu. All the food was delicious and felt it was great value for the quality of the food. Ribeye steak was delicious. Service was great well organised not rushed but no long wait times despite being full. The atmosphere was really nice- bustling and busy, log fire lit and the decor is lovely. We visited another restraunt in the same chain recently and left very disapointed this was a totally different and very positive experience. We haven't been in for years but will 100% return soon hopefully to try the Sunday roast.”

How this listing is sourced
- Where the data comes from
- Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
- How it stays current
- Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
- How it is ranked
- Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
