About Chinatown
Chinatown is a Chinese takeaway at 44 Southampton Rd in Ringwood. The menu features sweet and sour Hong Kong style, and duck appears in more than one form, as crispy duck and as duck rolls, with duck sauce among the options. Rice, noodle, curry and chicken dishes cover the wider range of the Chinese menu. Spring rolls and prawn crackers are also offered for starters and sides. Orders can be placed online or by phone, so customers can choose whichever method suits them.

Customer Review Summary
Five-star reviewers praise hot, tasty food at this Ringwood takeaway. The beef chow mein, generous with beef, draws the clearest praise, and a visitor called the duck sauce cracking and found even the microwaved leftovers better than their local Chinese. One regular describes the staff as usually happy and friendly, and another says the menu is easy to choose from. Opinion splits sharply, though. A few find the food salty, bland or one-dimensional, and the special fried rice was called bland, with only two peas in it. The special curry is described as tasting of curry powder and water, thickened and lumpy, and that reviewer suggests staying away from the curries and having the chow meins. Duck gets mixed treatment, with one calling it very dry and another finding the duck rolls light on filling, with sweet, bready pastry. Two reviewers report wrong or incomplete orders, including one who checked the screen when ordering yet received a plate of battered items instead of sweet and sour Hong Kong style.

“An average takeaway experience. The food was edible but quite salty, and the flavours were fairly one-dimensional. Service was fine and the order was correct, but overall it didn't leave much of an impression. Not terrible, just not somewhere I'd specifically recommend.”

“Not a local but this Chinese is about the best I have had, will be having another before I head home, it's sad to say, but even the left overs warmed up in microwave was even better. Food is hard to make for each and every one off us so it will always for most not right, but this was better than my local Chinese at home, and the duck sauce 🫙 was cracking thank you😜😜😜😜”

“In my mind, the best Chinese takeaway in Ringwood. They don't offer delivery but where I live NO ONE delivers anyway so makes no difference! Food is always hot and delicious. Prices have crept up but what hasn't! Plus it's a treat and cheaper than eating out. Difficult to rate the atmosphere... (It's JUST) a takeaway but they are usually happy and friendly. My only criticism (others may disagree) is they only offer what I would describe as the "average" prawn crackers. There is definitely a more budget version but I MUCH prefer the thicker - almost domed ones... Just saying 😉”
