Quick info
About Fforest Inn
Fforest Inn is a restaurant in Presteigne, on Llanfihangel-nant-Melan, with an open fire in the pub and tables set beside it. The menu runs to 26 dishes, from Salmon En Croute and a Chicken Or Vegetarian Tagine to steak and burgers, and a gluten free bun is available for the burgers. A carvery serves meat with hot veg and gives the kitchen a roast option alongside the regular list. Homemade chips come with meals, and the dessert list includes homemade puddings such as black forest gateau with ice cream. The kitchen works to a short weekly schedule rather than a full week of service. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring their pets along.

Customer Review Summary
The Sunday carvery draws the most repeat praise, described as not greasy, with plenty of meat and hot veg, and one diner plans a return trip just for it. Close behind are the homemade chips, singled out alongside generous portions, including a version topped with bacon and cheese. Steak is called very good, and the homemade puddings include a black forest gateau with ice cream. Reviewers describe a traditional country pub with a fire burning, friendly staff, and fresh food that comes out promptly. Several recommend booking. The criticisms are minor. One reviewer found the burger patties a bit too raw, and the same table found no gluten free beer in stock. Another would have liked some piped music early in the evening. Families and groups report a warm welcome, and the chef owner coming out to chat and share recommendations for the area is mentioned more than once.

“We have enjoyed the Fforest Inn experience. The fire was burning and we had a table close to the fire. Unfortunately they haven't had gluten free beer available when we were there but they had a really nice local cider for me. We've ordered burgers and I did get 1 with a gluten free bun. Unfortunately our burger patties were a bit too much on the raw side but otherwise wasn't bad at all with salad and nice homemade chips. For the pudding a black forest gateau with ice cream which went down rather well! The service was very good. Overall not a bad experience at all.”

“We went for dinner tonight and What a beautiful little gem of a pub. Its nestled in to the countryside. When you walk in you realise its a proper little country pub. Feels like a lovely warm cottage. The fire was on in the background and the smell is just the best. The staff were brilliant and so friendly. I am guessing but I think it was thr owners (1 of them the chef) were so nice to my little girl. The food was beautiful and freshly preped and cooked. I seriously cannot fault this. Its worth a little drive into the countryside.”

“Food and service top draw, well done you, maybe a little piped music would have been nice early on, but not needed when the place livened up. Proper home made deserts as well. Honestly if your looking for A1 pub grub in the area, you won't regret a visit here. We had steak and it was sooo good. Booking is a must.”

“The Fforest Inn is a true hidden gem. The owners are polite, welcoming and extremely attentive. Always lovely to visit a traditional pub surrounded by the beautiful Welsh countryside serving delicious food. The quality is outstanding, well presented and absolutely delicious! We visited 2 weeks ago and were so impressed that we came back again as a birthday treat for my Mum. Thank you so very much, we will be returning in a few weeks. Best pub experience in the area for miles around!”
