About The Rhydspence Inn
The Rhydspence Inn is a restaurant in Hereford housed in a former 14th century drovers' inn, with fireplaces and a maze of rooms that go up and down. The kitchen cooks duck dishes, including duck confit and duck breast, and serves its bubble and squeak as a crusted bombe with black pudding. Onglet steak comes with Cafe de Paris butter and chips. The bar pours local beers, and dogs are welcome inside the old building. Overnight guests can book rooms at the inn, and breakfast includes homemade sourdough.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the duck, whether the confit or the breast, paired with bubble and squeak served as a crusted bombe beside black pudding. Close behind are the onglet steak with Cafe de Paris butter, the beef and pork belly in generous portions, and chips one reviewer called stunningly good. Several describe a warm, friendly welcome in a beautiful old building of historic rooms, and a number call the menu reasonably priced for the quality. The caveats are specific. One reviewer's second visit went badly: undercooked duck with flabby skin, over-salted food, soggy chips, a small steak portion and a stale chocolate pastry, and a server told another table that was how the dish was meant to be. Another found the lamb stingy, disliked a pudding combining ice cream, cheese and granola, and was uncomfortable at a small corner table with a shelf between its legs. On the stay side, a reviewer praised the local beers, great coffee and homemade sourdough at breakfast.

“I visited the Rhydspence on Saturday evening with friends for a meal. We were immediately made to feel very welcome and loved the atmosphere and cheerful service. The food was excellent, with an interesting, varied and reasonably priced menu....well done to all the Team at Rhydspence!”

“Two of us dropped in at 5.45, horse-hungry after a walk. Quick sharpening pint waiting for the kitchen to open (6pm) then we nipped into the back and had two £10 starters each - duck confit plus bubble & squeak (which here comes in a crusted 'bombe' surrounded by granular black pudding). Couldn't resist a bowl of chips - which, maybe because absolutely fresh, were stunningly good. Came out stuffed - and all for a scant 40 sheets!”

“Eaten there twice the fort time the staff were friendly and our mains were nice. Nothing extraordinary, and definetly on the pricer side, but good quality and well balanced. The pudding were, sub par but the cocktails were lovely. The second time was awful. The staff were clearly stressed and made us feel like an inconvenience from the moment we stepped through the door. That would be fine if they were busy l, but we had booked and it was a quite Wednesday evening. The cocktails were good but the mains were dreadful. My friend had a stake and chips. The stake was cooked fine but it was a very small portion the chips were soggy and everything was over salted. I had the duck. It was a rubbish. The duck brest was undeeri cooked, and I like rare duck, the skin was flabby and extreamly salted. I was sat on a bed of vewrry sad kale and drenched in a really acidic addressing and topped with pickled blueberries, which definetdid not belong on the dish. Another costumer had simular complaints to me but the server simply told them that that was he the dish was meant to be. Still Hungary we dgave puddgdingds a shot. We both had a chox pastry. It was. Stale, stuffed with a veery dense whit chocolate "mouse" and grainy chocolate ice cream, accompanied by an unpleasantly tart raspberry jelly. Honestly, walked out feeling like I'd been robbed, and called stupid and too unsophisticated to understand the chef's palette. Honestly, if your in hay your money is much better spent in the blue bore. It definitely won't blow you away but your be full and satisfied walking out, enjoy the atmosphere and have a little extra lef in your pockets. Having had one goodish extra experience and one bad experience with the Rydespens, all I can say is the cocktails are nice but I'd rather go to a cocktail bar and if I wanted a nice meal near hay I have like 10 recommendations you should try first.”

“We had a wonderful stay here. A beautiful pub in a stunning bit of the world. The service was very attentive and friendly and the food was amazing. Local beers in the bar, a delicious breakfast with great coffee and homemade sourdough. Would definitely stay again”

“Absolutely delicious dinner in a beautifully old inn. The warmest welcome and friendliest service without being overwhelming. The duck breast was tender with I paired with the bubble and squeak. The Onglet steak was accompanied by delicious Cafe de Paris butter and really good chips. It was a lovely experience with an interesting combination of a locals having a drink, diners and guests staying.”
