Customer Review Summary

Reasonably priced pub meals draw the most praise, with the sausage and mash and a gammon served with chips, peas, an egg and a pineapple slice singled out as tasty and generously portioned. Reviewers also describe a varied menu, a kids menu called fantastic, and a quiet, lovely atmosphere after a refurbishment. Staff are often called friendly and helpful, including bar staff who guided one group through the pub's app. The recurring complaint is the kitchen. Two reviewers say food arrived far later than the time quoted, and one found the platter vegetables dried on, the steak cooked past medium rare under the heat lamp and the onion rings flabby. Another received a pork sizzler that was not sizzling, cold fries and a curry described as poor. Others found the ribs dry and the portions and chips small. One family's Sunday booking went wrong over a limited carvery menu, until a bartender promised them a table on their return and the children's meals came out quickly.

“Food was OK, but delivery to the table very nearly twice as long as the wait advertised (80 minutes not 45). Plainly kitchen problems, our food was hot, as in been kept hot for a long time, the supposedly sizzling veg on the platter was dried on, it had been kept hot that long. Yes, I could have asked for the veg to be sizzling as it says on the menu, but I wasn't prepared for another long delay. My steak was now medium not medium/rare, it had cooked further under the heat lamp but was still edible. The crispy onion rings going flabby. No apologies for the long delay from either the server or the bar staff when I went to pay. Such a shame, I really wanted to like the place, it has great 'bones' but I fear a return visit will be a long time in happening.”

“We booked online for 1430 on a Sunday, not realising that the kitchen was operating on a limited menu due to the carvery. Having 3 neurodivergent kids in tow, the carvery and the other options were not going to work. Tried booking online for a later time in the evening but there were no spaces. We decided to leave and explained that the table we booked would not be needed and apologised for the misunderstanding in regards to the food menu. This is when the lovely girl behind the bar, Tilly, stepped in. She was full of apologies for what happened (not her fault, I doubt she controls the website!), and told us to come back later and she would get us a table. On return, Tilly saw us and immediately got us a table and was nothing short of excellent throughout our dining. Food came out quick and was wonderful, more importantly we had 3 very happy kids not complaining they were hungry. Cannot emphasise how grateful we are to Tilly and how nothing was too much trouble for her. Great attitude and personality in dealing with customers makes for a place you want to return to.”

“The food wasn’t great at all, the missus got a curry and she said shes had better curry from Aldi superstore. The staff wasn’t very polite or welcoming either. If totally honest i didnt feel welcoming at all i almost walked out. Ive had better food from a Wetherspoons restaurant to be honest. I’d deffo stay well away from here until they improve their staff and the chef. We ordered fries and they came out cold. I ordered myself a pork sizzler and it wasn’t sizzling at all so yeah stay away from here”

“We were camping in Sandford holiday park and saw the clay pipe inn. Out of the 4 nights camping we came here 3 nights. Fortunately for us we signed onto the app in time for 40% off the 1st meal we had which was nice and hot. The bar staff we very helpful in guiding us through the app. There is seating inside and out, toilets both inside and out. Parking available. They asked if there were any dietary restrictions each time we visited. We were not disappointed with any of the meals we had, they were hot and tasty.”

“Lovely pub in Sandford. Very reasonably priced with a varied menu. The food was cooked well and a large amount given. The drinks were traditional beers and other fares. We really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.”
