About Spice 4 U
Spice 4 U is an Indian restaurant at 41 Hungate in Pickering, a small, long-running room with art on the walls and cloths on the tables. Every meal comes with a pickle tray that includes lime pickle, so the table has something tangy to go with the mains. The menu follows the classic Indian format, with chicken tikka biryani among the dishes, and the naan is made fresh. Mixed lassi sits on the drinks list for anyone who wants something other than a standard soft drink. Tables can be pre-booked, and diners are seated straight away.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the pickle tray, which one reviewer calls the most generous at any restaurant they have visited, with the lime pickle named as a highlight. Close behind are the mixed lassi, naan that one reviewer says was clearly freshly made, and a dish finished with brandy that one diner had not seen elsewhere. Several describe delicious food, generous portions, and welcoming service that stays quick on busy nights, with takeaway ready fast and piping hot. The criticism is specific. One reviewer found the chicken tikka biryani closer to chicken fried rice than a layered biryani, and said the mixed vegetable curry seemed previously frozen and reheated. Another felt rushed to order and finish, which made the evening feel pressured. Against that, a self-described curry expert and a Bradford native both rated the curry highly. One takeaway customer asked for spiced onions and the team surprised them with their own version.

“We ordered takeaway which was ready quickly. Piping hot by the time we got to our cottage and everything was beautiful. Very impressed that when we asked for spiced onions (not knowing this is a Scottish invention) the team accommodated and surprised us with their own version! They were amazing, I think probably better than what we've had at home. Thank you! Lovely last supper on our holiday before we head home!”

“We had a delicious authentic Indian meal. The portions were generous. The mains were delicious and the naan was clearly freshly made. It was the best Indian food we have had in long time. The staff were friendly and the service was fast. The restaurant was nicely decorated and full of local customers, which is a good sign. We thought it was good value.”

“Love this place.im a bradfordian and I never get a good curry anywhere till I came here. Its good.and the service is great there is a small older gentleman who is very attentive to his work. We came on Friday night and as he was replacing cloths on the table he made sure no creases of any kind were on the cloths. When asking if we could take some of our food home as we were full he asked what we wanted and who we wanted it tubbed up. Great guy pleasant and helpful.”
