About NEW CHINA GARDEN
New China Garden is a Chinese takeaway in Middlesbrough, at 138 High St. The kitchen is open evenings only and closes on Wednesdays. The munch box is a recurring order, and it comes with free chicken wings, with curry sauce and chips on the side. Chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce make up the starter choice, and the menu also lists sweet and sour king prawn Cantonese style for a main. Orders can be placed directly with the shop. Prawn crackers and fortune cookies come with orders.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are just as pointed and centre on dryness. Several describe food that was overcooked and rock hard, comparing it to cardboard, including a sweet and sour king prawn Cantonese style that tasted like overcooked pork, and chicken too tough to bite. Chips draw repeated criticism for being hard, and one finds the curry sauce watery. One former regular says the meal was worse after a reopening. After a complaint, one reviewer was sent a driver with compensation, while another was told no refund was possible because the food had been eaten. One reviewer finds the dishes lacking Chinese flavour and more like home cooking.

“I can’t give you any stars for the food, ordered a munch box and chicken curry with fried rice, this was the worse ever Chinese meal, I really should of took it back and ask you for your explanation on what you served me, everything was over cooked it was like it had been in the oven and totally dried out. The only thing I could eat was the fried rice and prawn crackers, the rest went in the bin, it really was that bad uneatable, how you can serve people that tripe is unbelievable, had meals from here before everything was spot on, but it closed for a while and found out it reopened, just can’t be the same cooks not in a million years, will never ever go here again, would definitely advise anybody to give this place a very wide berth, it really was that bad”

“Wow wow wow ,plenty of food delicious but think curry sauce needs elevating more spice and Chinese flavour, all meats were succulent chicken wings amazing loads of crispy chips perfectly cooked, I've found my new takeaway, thankyou chefs for a great order ,I'll be back 😋after try all my dishes I'm sad to say they lack in flavour they don't really taste like Chinese more home cooked i actually get more flavour in my own cooking, such a shame, wok88 longlands is one of my top 2 in flavour the other is Colin chengs Marton-in-Cleveland no 1 ,”

“Would give 0 stars if possible! Ordered from here a few times but tonight the food was rock hard and dry! The only decent thing was the chips, rang to complain and they said that they can’t refund the order because it’s been ate, it wasn’t ate as it was awful and would. The food was like cardboard but apparently cooking dry food gets customers, they said.”
