About Pistachio Bakery & Deli

Pistachio runs as a bakery, deli and cafe on Bridge Rd in Middlesbrough, with pistachio flavours threaded through the counter and a pistachio croissant baked as part of that range. The rest of the case moves between savoury and sweet, taking in a Brie, bacon and cranberry croissant, fruit scones and loaf cakes finished with toppings such as lemon drizzle and salted caramel. Brunch plates run alongside, including poached eggs and smashed avocado toast with poached egg and halloumi, with matcha lattes, teas and coffees to drink. The room itself is small, and a couple of tables on the pavement give the option of eating outdoors. Dogs are welcome inside, so walkers can bring theirs along. Service is walk-in rather than booked, and seats can be hard to come by when it is busy. It trades Tuesday to Saturday during the daytime, closing on Mondays and Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee draws the most praise here, with reviewers calling the coffees lovely and wonderful, and two singling out a matcha latte as beautifully presented. Close behind are the savoury plates: smashed avocado toast with poached egg and halloumi, poached eggs and bacon on brioche toast, and a Brie, bacon and cranberry croissant. A pistachio croissant and a fruit scone also earn praise, and several describe the staff as lovely and helpful, with prompt service. The cafe is small, with a couple of tables on the pavement, and one reviewer says seats can be hard to get at peak times. Cakes draw the sharpest criticism. One diner found the lemon drizzle loaf heavy, with only a layer of icing and no syrupy drizzle, and said all four cakes on offer contained chocolate. Another was unhappy that full fat milk was not offered and called the service poor. One visitor liked the outside table so much they bought something just to sit at it.

“Had a lovely time at Pistachio! The food was very well made and fresh!”

“First impressions, lovely cafe. However, looks can be deceiving, and I was very disappointed. They don't offer full fat milk, an essential ingredient in proper coffee preparation, not semi skimmed rubbish, especially milk alternatives that are not milk. The cakes, were not like pictures portray, and the overall service was poor. Something i see far too often in the country, no quality in food or service.”

“Wow, delightful little place! Cute table outside was so inviting - we had to get something just to sit at it. The menu was another huge surprise- so much yumminess- hard to pick one! A must visit when in town!!”

“Great little deli and bakery. Called in today for a coffee, lovely helpful staff serving wonderful coffee. Fruit scone was delicious as was the Brie, bacon & cranberry croissant. Highly recommended.”
