Customer Review Summary
Biryani anchors most of the praise, from the Thalassery Chicken Biryani served with raita and lemon pickle to a mutton biriyani described as perfectly spiced with tender meat. Close behind are the kizhi dishes, with reviewers singling out the soft Kizhi Perotta, whose filling is wrapped in banana leaf, and the kizhi biriyani. Also named are Thattukada Chicken Fry with kallappam and Dragon Chicken. Many call the cooking authentic and homely, with generous portions and friendly, quick service. The recurring complaints concern the room and the value. Reviewers describe just four tables, a plain ambience, basic toilets, and a business that leans toward takeaway and delivery. Prices split opinion: some find them very reasonable, while others say they felt high for what arrived. One diner found the fish and kizhi biryanis lacking richness and aroma, and the Gobi Manchurian dry. Another reviewer describes an aggressive server. Even so, one visitor who had craved chattichoru for years says it felt like being in Kerala from the first bite.

“Tastes like it should - proper south Indian food. Service was quick. Portions were very generous. Appears to be a predominantly a take away business with delivery drivers in and out. Just 4 tables with poor ambience and basic toilets. Prices are in line with fine dining rates. It would be a great South Indian experience if only they had a proper restaurant ambience.”

“Absolutely loved my meal here! I ordered the Mutton Biriyani, Kizhi Perotta, and the Dragon Chicken. The biryani was perfectly spiced with tender mutton, and the aroma was incredible. The Kizhi Perotta was a revelation – the parotta was so soft and soaked up all the delicious, rich flavors from the filling wrapped in the banana leaf. And the Dragon Chicken was a fantastic addition, with a unique sweet and spicy kick that was perfectly balanced. A must-try for anyone craving authentic Kerala cuisine…”

“Kottanad Taste is a great spot if you’re craving authentic Kerala-style food. The flavors feel very homely, with well-balanced spices and that distinct Kerala touch in every dish. The meals are fresh, satisfying, and remind you of traditional cooking rather than overly commercialized restaurant food. The service is warm and welcoming, and a special mention to Baby Mathew, who adds a personal touch to the whole experience. His friendly and attentive approach makes you feel comfortable and valued as a guest.”
