About Society

Society is a food court at 100 Barbirolli Square in Manchester, with five independent street-food kitchens and a taproom run by craft brewery Vocation. Diners can mix and match across the stalls. Manzoku serves Katsu curry, El Piloto serves corn ribs, and Noi Quattro is the pizza stall. The bar pours cask and keg beer, mainly from Vocation and including Crush Hour, alongside guest beers, cocktails and wine, with a happy hour. Long communal tables fill the open space, which sits down some steps by a fountain. Benches carry QR codes for ordering food and beer to the table, and the bar and food outlets also take orders in person. Vegan options cover both the food and the beer.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the food from El Piloto, naming the chipotle chicken quesadillas, bravas fritas, corn ribs and hashbrowns, with reviewers praising the generous portions. Close behind is Manzoku, where the katsu curry, salt and pepper chips with curry sauce and the spice bag with crispy chicken and Korean spices draw praise. The pizza from Noi Quattro and a smash burger also get mentions. The craft beer list, mainly from Vocation with guest taps, is described as excellent, and one reviewer liked the Crush Hour pint. Cocktails such as a strawberries and cream and a pina colada-style drink also earn praise. Several like mixing dishes from different vendors, and the outdoor seating by the canal and the vegan options come up too. The one caution is crowding: one reviewer found seats only with luck at peak time on a Saturday, and another noted the chilli heat in the Manzoku curry caught them off guard. Reviewers also describe ordering by QR code or website and having food and beer arrive at the table promptly.

“What a brilliant find this place was. It's like Stack in the North East ... But good. By that I mean there was an impressive selection of craft ales and they were all cheaper than a Neck Oil in 'the other place' and there were lots of different types of food available. We got Katsu curry and some Salt and Pepper Curry & Chips from Manzoku. The flavour was outstanding (although the chilli strength caught us by surprise and we both got hiccups lol). All in it cost us £29.75 and I feel like that was excellent value for what we had. The guy who served me in the bar area was really helpful asking what beer styles I preferred and offering suggestions of what I would probably like. When there were about 30 choices this was very welcome. The building was down some steps next to a beautiful water fountain and was a modern industrial looking unit that was fresh, clean and airy. It was very pleasant to sit in. It was fairly quiet when we arrive at around five pm, but was a lot busier as we were leaving around an hour or so later. Clearly a good spot to meet others and chill after a day a work. There are QR codes in the benches so you can order the beer and food to come directly to your table if that's what you like, I prefer a good look around and to actually talk to some people. Everyone was friendly and helpful. This is somewhere you definitely have to visit if you are in Manchester!”

“Really cool concept for a place. Great to visit if you’re not entirely sure what cuisine u fancy. Korean, Italian, Mexican. We had the chipotle chicken quesadillas and bravas fritas from El Piloto and they were both incredible! The sauce on the quesadillas was *chefs kiss*. Previously have had the pizza from Noi Quattro which was also banging. And to top it off, a great vibe on a sunny day, lots of outdoor seating and nice surroundings.”
