About Derwent Arms

Derwent Arms is a pub on Church St in Malton, and its car park lets campervans and motorhomes stay overnight, giving travelling campers an overnight stop. Campers register their vehicle's reg number when they arrive. Food is ordered at the bar from a pub grub menu that includes a giant Yorkshire pudding with sausage or beef, steak pie and a Sunday roast dinner. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, which has a large TV screen that shows football. The car park has designated spaces for visitors arriving by car. Desserts run alongside the mains, and the pub holds ice cream Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the friendly, welcoming staff, who one parent says accommodated a son's eating habits, alongside pub food described as tasty and fairly priced. Named dishes include the mixed grill, the garlic and stilton burger, the gammon, the giant Yorkshire pudding with beef, and a fresh-cooked burger a nine-year-old called the best ever. Close behind, the desserts draw notice, particularly the cookie dough ice cream Sunday one diner would call in for on its own. The dog-friendly bar, a big TV screen for the football, and parking that suits campervan stopovers also come up, though one camper notes the electric hook-up had been removed. The complaints are specific. One Sunday lunch visitor found the roast dinners and pies dry and rubbery, the chocolate cheesecake warm, the sticky toffee pudding cold, and the vanilla ice cream gone, with food arriving slowly and unevenly. Another reviewer describes lukewarm, bland food, a watery Amstel, and toilets called shocking, and a third mentions the ladies being out of toilet roll. One reviewer notes the staff still offered a steak in place of the unavailable roast.

“Me and my wife were visiting after a day in Scarborough.Food took to long and came out lukewarm and bland, staff didn’t know what they were doing at the bar or operate the till. Cleanliness overall isnt the best, the toilets are shocking. I ordered an Amstel and it was very watery, the environment was very appealing rather of gone to weatherspoons then sit in this pub. AVOID!!”
