About Hall & Woodhouse Taplow

Hall & Woodhouse Taplow is an all-day restaurant in Maidenhead on Mill Ln., set beside the Thames and open daily for brunch, lunch and dinner. Families and dogs are both welcome. The large indoor dining area has modern decor, and a separate bar area adds more seating. The bar runs two beer stations and pours wine and cocktails, and a queue forms there at busy times. Fish and chips and a Sunday roast are both on the menu.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most to the riverside setting beside the Thames, with several praising the stunning views, the modern decor, live plants indoors and a colourful bar. Drinks come close behind: diners point to an excellent beer selection, very well made drinks, creative cocktails and a wide range of wines. Fish and chips and a tasty Sunday roast are the dishes named, along with a huge kids menu and a reasonable choice of vegetarian options. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming. The complaints are specific. One reviewer describes a missed main, a missed dessert, an extra main on the bill and only a quick apology. Another says empty glasses and plates sit on tables for long periods and that only one of two beer stations is usually in use, which causes queues. A couple find prices a little high, and one notes nothing halal. One parent visiting on a hot day received iced water and a pack of crayons and colouring pages for their toddler.

“Located beside the Thames, plenty of tables we ith numbers. Plenty of seating. Large indoors and bar area. Staff friendly. Sunday roast was tasty and a nice choice. Plenty of parking near the venue or in a small overflow opposite. Would be cautious at night but I went on a a sunny Sunday.”

“The location is good right by a river and the decor is stunning however we found service to be pretty poor. Across the board there were issues to start there were not enough menus for the table and after seating we had to wait ages before being acknowledged, taking orders the waitress seemed distracted and flustered. One main was missed which was disappointing as we then had to wait. After mains again no one checked in and we had to search and chase up for dessert menus. Orders were taken by another waiter and surprise surprise a dessert was missed! Checking the bill and extra main was charged for - staff and service aspect really was a mess In the end we paid the bill but no one in the team offered a gesture of goodwill, just a quick apology then went on with other bits Food was as you would expect from a gastopub albeit a little expensive. Good selection of British food and beer Just let down by service - could do with a decent manager/team leader”

“The beer selection is excellent and the service is always polite and friendly. The staff are welcoming, and it's great to have a venue like this in the area. Unfortunately, there are a couple of ongoing issues that stop it from being a five-star experience. Despite having two beer stations, only one seems to be in use most of the time, which regularly leads to unnecessary queues. The main issue, however, is the lack of table clearing. We've noticed this ever since the place opened. Dirty glasses and empty plates are often left on tables for long periods, sometimes from previous customers. What's particularly frustrating is that staff frequently bring food to tables and then walk away without taking any of the empty glasses already sitting there. It gives the impression that there is no regular table-clearing routine in place. Having worked in hospitality myself when I was younger, it's something I can't help noticing. The beer and atmosphere are great, but seeing tables covered in empty glasses makes me want to grab a tray and start clearing them myself! A more proactive approach to keeping tables clean would make a huge difference to the overall customer experience.”

“We arrived with a toddler on an extremely hot day, and Hannah and the team were fantastic.🏆🏆🏆 They helped us navigate the menu, kept us supplied with iced water, and even gave our daughter a lovely branded pack of crayons and colouring pages to keep her busy. We felt genuinely welcome and will absolutely be back. / My husband was filming in the area and he threw a drone up, pics attached. :)”
