About The Shalimar Restaurant

The Shalimar Restaurant is a Bangladeshi restaurant on Chestergate in Macclesfield, set a short walk from the town centre and serving both sit-down meals and takeaway orders. The kitchen covers familiar South Asian dishes, with chicken tikka, chicken jalfrezi and chicken madras among the regulars, alongside garlic naan baked in the tandoor. A Sunday special runs once a week, and the room takes bookings for larger groups, including parties of around twenty. Diners can order pints and other drinks to have at the table while they wait for their food. The format is straightforward counter and table service, with the same menu available for collection as for eating in.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers praise the food most, calling it tasty and lovely, with a Sunday special for a birthday and a group of twenty seated without waiting. Friendly staff and service come up close behind. Takeaway draws the complaints: one reviewer describes oddly coloured chicken tikka and a mischarged bill settled with a bottle of lager, another rubbery chicken madras, and one reports illness from raw chicken.

“Ive always ordered from here always been great, but the other week i ended up really ill due to raw chicken. I messaged them and they didnt even replay back to me which i find shocking considering i was a regular there, would never order from here again.”

“Just been for my wife's birthday. We had the Sunday special. Normally you get smaller portions. But oh no we didn't. The food was very tasty. Not one of us was disappointed. The service was top notch and very friendly. Every where was clean and tidy. Needless to say we will be back. Amazing”

“I've tried several "Indian" takeaways in the area and I've been disappointed in most. This was not an exception to the trend. Firstly, I ordered a chicken tikka starter with sauce and salad separate, with a garlic naan from a staff member. I explained what I wanted and he repeated what I said. I ordered a pint whilst I waited. Just as I thought he was going to the kitchen, the manager/owner (M/O) came in. The staff member explained what I'd ordered to the M/O who then took payment, I can't remember the exact figure but it was over £17. I sat down with my drink and checked the menu, anyway after questioning the price, they had charged me for a tikka main instead of starter, easy enough mistake and was rectified with a bottle of lager to take home. I sat down again and took a sip of my drink, only to be presented with ny order. They saw me drinking, they knew that I'd been delayed trying to sort the bill out, why didn't they tell the chef to hang on a bit. Anyway, I left, leaving nearly half a pint. When i got home and opened the parcel, the yogurt had leaked in the bag. On unveiling the rolled up naan (which was ok), I was confronted by what I can only describe as uranium enriched chicken, either it was marinated in food colouring, or it had spent 3 days on a sunbed prior to its appointment to meet its maker. Anyway the search for a decent "Indian" continues”
