About Woolpack Inn
The Woolpack Inn is a pub at 14 Riverhead Rd in Louth, right next to the canal. It is a coaching inn dating back to 1770, opened alongside the Louth canal, and two log burning stoves warm the rooms through winter. The kitchen serves home cooked food, with specials listed on boards above the bar, and the waiter takes your order at the table. Sunday lunch is a regular draw, and a Sunday late menu is available at 4pm. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and in a secure grassed area where they can be let off to play, though not in the lounge. The pub is open daily, with a canal walk close by.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what reviewers return to most, with the roast praised for plenty of meat and vegetables and several calling the food delicious and clearly home cooked. Specifics named include a lasagne with garlic bread and a generous salad, a chicken tikka curry, mussels from the specials, and a warm chocolate brownie. Close behind is the welcome, with staff described as friendly, helpful and efficient, and one reviewer finding a table on a busy Saturday evening shortly before the kitchen closed. Dog owners mention a secure grass area where dogs can play, while the patio and lounge areas do not allow them. Others like the canal location for a walk before a drink. The main complaint comes from one diner whose party was told the fire-side table was booked, with no sign saying so, then moved tables only to hear the original one was free again, though an apology followed. Several describe the pub as busy, and one recommends booking. Groups of ten and eleven who pre-booked report hot, fresh food.

“Despite turning up on a busy Saturday evening 40 mins before the kitchen closed, we were found a table. The whole experience was outstanding. Bar staff attentive, food was absolutely faultless and service spot on. Despite the pub being busy, there was a nice atmosphere in the dining area. Well worth the 30 mile round trip from where we were staying. We will without doubt be visiting again next time we are local..”

“Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Lots of choice, we went for 4pm as u could also pick from Sunday late menu too. Several specials u could also choose from, hubby had the mussels, he throughly enjoyed these. There is a bar area and grassed area where u can take your dog with u. Also there is a patio area and lounge areas where dogs are not allowed. Reasonably priced, good location as its right next to the canal for a good walk then drink when u get back.”

“We booked lunch for a party of eleven. The food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The young man who looked after us had a great sense of humour. The pub and garden's fairly recent transformation is very impressive and a relaxing space. Outside has a lovely patio with beautiful planting and also a rustic picnic bench garden. Thank you for having us!”

“Parked up to go for a walk near the Woolpack Inn. Popped in for a quick drink and stayed for Sunday lunch. We were very glad we did as not only was the beer good and the staff nice to talk to but the Sunday roast was amazing. For the price you got plenty of meat and vegetables. The food quality was outstanding so we will be visiting to try the standard menu very soon.”

“We popped into the pub at about 1 30 pm it was busy and they where having the window refurbished but we got seated and bought our drinks, the waiter takes your order at the table and was very friendly and helpful letting us know of the specials on the boards above the bar, we both chose our dinner I have the lasagne with garlic bread with fries on the side as well, this also came with a generous salad too, hubby chose a chicken tikka curry, when the food came to the table it was clear it was home cooked, it was hot and kept its heat whilst eating I could not fault my lasagne and garlic bread and hubby enjoyed his curry, reasonably priced good food and wonderful service thank you for a lovely meal .”

“The Woolpack is a grade 11 listed building, and is located on the eastern fringes of the market town of Louth, at Riverhead, close to the banks of the canal. A traditional coaching inn, it dates back to 1770, coinciding with the opening of the Louth canal and it’s inland seaport. Today, the Woolpack retains all of its original character and charm, having been extensively and sympathetically refurbished to provide comfortable and relaxed surroundings for modern times. With two log burning stoves for the winter months and a selection of comfortable seating and dining areas, it is a cosy place to spend some time enjoying good home cooked food or a drink or two.”
