About Blue Peter Inn
Blue Peter Inn is a family-run real ale pub on Quay Rd in Looe, set between old smugglers' cottages. The drinks list draws on Westcountry suppliers, and live music plays every weekend. The kitchen cooks homecooked food, including fish and chips and a beef burger served with a small salad. The pub is open daily and takes no bookings. It is walk-in only, and visitors can expect a wait before being fitted in. Allergens are displayed on the menu.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw most reviewers raise, described as fresh and delicious, including one diner with no wheat or dairy in their diet who found allergens displayed on the menu and still got proper fish and chips. Close behind is the staff, called friendly, welcoming and helpful, with one reviewer noting they offered help with a pram. The beef burger earns praise too, with its small side salad described as a lovely dish in its own right, and the meal sizes are called generous. Several describe a very old pub with plenty of atmosphere, benches outside by the water, and live music that one reviewer called incredible. One reviewer says bookings aren't taken but suggests having another pint and being patient. The one low rating describes a brisket burger on a hard bun with a charred, burnt taste, bland chips, and loaded chili fries with no actual chili. That reviewer also objected that staff were told not to give out the guest Wi-Fi password, leaving a paid option on another network, though they found their waitress friendly and apologetic.

“I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The atmosphere downstairs has a classic British pub feel, which was probably the highlight of the visit. Beyond that, the hype far exceeded the reality. The menu was a little misleading—or perhaps I misunderstood it. I ordered what I thought would be a brisket-blend burger, but it turned out to be sliced/pulled brisket on a potato bun. It looked fantastic when it arrived, but the first bite was enough for me. The bun was surprisingly hard, and the brisket had a strange charred, almost dirty or burnt flavor that I simply couldn’t get past. I ate one bite and couldn’t continue. The chips looked great but were completely bland. Even adding salt and vinegar couldn’t save them. We also ordered the “loaded chili fries,” but if you’re expecting actual chili, don’t. They were topped with jalapeños, grilled onions, and a runny cheese sauce. Whatever cheese they used was, in my opinion, awful, and there really wasn’t any chili to speak of. As an appetizer, I tried the tempura gherkin. It came with what looked like ranch dressing, but I was told it was tartar sauce. It was thin, runny, and lacked much flavor—not at all what I’d expect from tartar sauce. For me, the food was a complete miss. I couldn’t eat my burger after one bite, and both the fries and the loaded fries ended up being left behind. What made the experience even more frustrating was the Wi-Fi policy. Our group of 10 spent well over £50 per person (my bill alone was £55), and when we asked for the guest Wi-Fi password, our waitress told us they had been instructed not to give it out. Instead, the only option was to pay £7 for one hour of access on another network. That felt incredibly unfriendly, especially after spending that much at the restaurant. The one bright spot was our waitress. She was friendly, apologetic, and genuinely trying her best despite the policies she had to enforce. I’d give her 2.5 stars. Overall, I left very disappointed. Between the food and the lack of basic hospitality, this isn’t somewhere I’d return. If you’re in the area and looking for a good meal, I’d recommend skipping this place and grabbing something from one of the nearby street vendors instead.”

“Had a fantastic meal here with my family earlier this week. I have dietary restrictions (no wheat or dairy) and they had plenty of food options with all allergens displayed on the menu. Food quality was fantastic - I was able to get proper fish and chips which were delicious! Staff were friendly and the pub's in a nice spot by the harbour. Highly recommend!”

“Blue peter is a must visit in Polperro, a piece of cornwalla history, my 60 year old dad still remembers being in there when he was 16. The staff are all very kind and offered to help us with rhe pram and were very lovely towards our little girl. The food looked and smelt amazing! Sadly we had a pasty before we went in but were still tempted ! Must visit in Polperro !”
