About The Wolseley Piccadilly

The Wolseley Piccadilly is a British restaurant on 160 Piccadilly in London, set within a grand art deco dining room that shapes the experience from arrival. Modern European cooking anchors the menu, which spans 219 dishes, and afternoon tea remains a defining part of the house. The Afternoon Tea Cake Selection leads the tea service, while the egg dishes, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine and Eggs Arlington, appear as popular all-day options. Coffee also has a place here, with Wiener Kaffee listed among the offerings. The price range for mains runs from £3 to £215, covering lighter brasserie-style choices alongside more formal plates. Because the room draws both visitors and Londoners for tea and dinner, booking ahead is advised.

Customer Review Summary

The grand Art Deco interior is the dominant draw, with reviewers consistently highlighting the elegant setting, gleaming black-and-white floors, and Victorian-style silverware that creates a sense of occasion. Afternoon tea is the most frequently mentioned experience, where guests enjoy the Afternoon Blend tea, pescatarian sandwiches, and scones, often receiving a complimentary birthday macaroon or cookie. Close behind are the main courses, with reviewers naming the roast duck, halibut, and the omelette, alongside the fresh bread and butter. A recurring caveat centers on service and pacing, with multiple diners noting slow or inattentive service, having to flag down staff for the bill, and cold coffee. Several also describe feeling rushed due to strict table time limits, noting that staff asked them to leave even on a weekday morning. The noise level is another frequent complaint, with some finding it too loud to hear their server. Despite this, the traditional atmosphere leaves a strong impression, right down to the ice cold draught beer.

Took my mum here for her birthday as she loves this place. I had the salmon rillettes for starter, followed by roast duck with braised …

We had lunch here to enjoy a classic London dining experience. The restaurant was quite busy, and the service was rather slow from the start. We waited a considerable amount of time before a server attended to us, so some patience is required. We ordered the Fishcakes Arlington, Regular Chicken Salad, Cucumber Salad, Lingsdown Still Water, and a Wiener Kaffee. The food and service were slightly above average, but nothing particularly memorable or outstanding. One thing to note is that bottled water can be quite expensive in Europe. Our still water cost £5.95, so you may be better off ordering a coffee, tea, or beer instead. The restaurant also adds a 15% service charge, which is higher than what we encountered at many other places during our trip. Overall, it was a pleasant enough meal for the traditional London atmosphere, but the food and service did not particularly stand out.

Great place and happy we went! Walked in without a booking and luckily got a table. Food was very good and service fantastic. Highly recommended. One note, they kindly serve bread and butter but when putting it on the table please give the guests a side place to eat it from. Other than that faultless! Ice cold draught beer too.

The best place for AFTERNOON TEA We booked a reservation for a Monday afternoon to try their famous afternoon tea. All the experience was impeccable and was our HIGHLIGHT during our trip to LONDON. Atmosphere is enchanting - the dining hall is beautifully decorated, the cutlery and plates are elegant and aesthetic. The service is excellent - the waiters are friendly, agreeable and professional. We were asked if we’re celebrating something, and as it was we were celebrating a birthday, so we received an extra delicious macaroon and a marzipan edible birthday cookie. The tea is great (never had so much tea in our life). We had the English Breakfast and then Afternoon Blend (you get a refill), which we thoroughly enjoyed. As for the sandwiches - we had a pescatarian menu, which was perfectly delicious (and you m get a refill for the sandwiches too). The cakes were also flawless and the scones great! It is not a cheap place, and with service fee it’s over £50 per person. But it’s totally worth it, as you can feel like ROYALTY for two hours ;)

I had a lovely experience overall at The Wolseley. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was absolutely beautiful elegant and relaxing. The service was generally good as well. However, one thing that stood out to me was the time limit on the table. I had expected to be able to stay for around 1.5 to 2 hours, but the reservation time felt quite short at 1 hour and 15 minutes. Although the staff kindly extended our time by an hour, we were later asked to leave as they couldn’t extend it any further. Given that my reservation was at 10:45 on a weekday, I was a bit surprised by how strict the time limit was. I didn’t expect to feel rushed, especially at that time of day. I also felt that the atmosphere made me want to stay longer and enjoy the meal at a slower pace, but the time limit didn’t quite match that feeling. I understand that I should have checked the reservation details more carefully, but considering the portion sizes, it would have been nice to have a bit more time to fully enjoy the experience. Considering the overall cost of the meal, I did feel a little disappointed to be rushed, as I had hoped to enjoy the experience at a more relaxed pace. Overall, it’s a wonderful place, but I do think a slightly longer dining time would make the experience even better.
