Nam Long Le Shaker
Quick info
About Nam Long Le Shaker
Nam Long Le Shaker is a Vietnamese restaurant and cocktail bar at 159 Old Brompton Rd in London, with French-colonial influences and a room filled with golden Buddha figures. The menu pairs small plates with a momo residency, including duck momos, and mains such as Saigon chicken curry. Ube panna cotta with Alphonso mango puree closes the dessert list. The bar staff make margaritas and other cocktails alongside the food, and reservations are required. A downstairs area opens late for drinks, which gives the venue a late-night option after dinner service.

Customer Review Summary
The momo residency draws the most comment and divides reviewers. One calls them the best momos they have had, while another found the duck momos hard and dry in the wrapping and the prawn momos too mushy to identify, though the kefir lime sauce won praise. Close behind are the other plates, with prawn toast, prawn skewers, beef fillet cubes, egg noodles with bean sprouts and Saigon chicken curry singled out, plus margaritas rated 10/10. The ube panna cotta with Alphonso mango puree was the saving grace of one disappointing visit. Regulars of two decades describe a multi-generational crowd, and one notes a downstairs area opening at midnight for drinks until 2am. Service is mixed, from quick and funny to an empty Friday room where it took ages to be served and nobody checked on the meal. The sharpest complaint concerns the door. Two reviewers report being turned away as "too casual" or "too informal" while others inside dressed similarly, describing a rude, touchy doorman and racial comments made to their Asian companions.

“Been a regular patron to this fabulous institution in South Ken for over two decades. It's persisted and flourished across a great many market cycles and fashion mood swings, accumulating a global community of return revellers. Le Shaker (or 'Nammies') creates an uncanny perfect storm of chaos and harmony, a place where a tasty plate or quiet tipple can erupt into raucous adventure, sometimes calming again, sometimes echoing elsewhere into the night after last call, atypical in its multi-generational clientele from every imaginable walk of life, trading merrily in social exchange, barmen of brilliance assembling cocktails with alacrity and punch. Come with curiosity, bringing the best side of you, but not too many of you, vibe and capacity are carefully curated by gentle giants at the gate. Be kind, be well”

“not a place london should be proud of and would not recommend wasting your time here. guy at the door was extremely rude and touchy. he wouldnt let us in due to “too casual dress,” although nothing on their page mentions a dress code. we were actually wearing very nice clothing, but i guess if you dont have taste that doesnt matter. as we were leaving a racial comment was also made. as an asian woman, being treated like that and told i cant eat at an asian restaurant by some pompous white guy, regardless of what I was wearing, was pretty hilarious and left a bad taste in my mouth.”

“me and girlfriend were refused service for being “too informal”. this was completely arbitrary as others in the bar were dressed similarly. doorman was aggressive and touchy for no reason, and made racial comments to my chinese girlfriend. looking at reviews i’m realizing my experience was not unique.”
