About Banana Tree West Hampstead
Banana Tree West Hampstead is a restaurant in London, at 237-239 W End Ln, serving street food from Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia. More than 40% of the menu is plant-based, so the vegan and vegetarian dishes cover a large part of what is on offer. Laksa appears as a soup and as Chicken Laksa, and the menu also lists Beef Rendang. Waiters explain the dishes at the table and give recommendations on both food and mocktails. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the service, with one server repeatedly praised as friendly, attentive and good at recommending dishes and mocktails, and another waiter described as outstanding despite being the only one on the floor. On the food, the Beef Rendang is the standout, ordered multiple times by one table, with close mentions for the Laksa, Singapore noodles, tender satay, duck cooked to perfection and a Vegan Katsu a vegetarian diner was impressed by. Several mention generous portions and fair value, and one notes the all-day cocktail happy hour. A recurring caveat is thinner but detailed: one diner found the noodles clumped together, the steak not cooked as requested and the puddings tasting like they had been sitting around, and also described dirty patches near a radiator and table. The same reviewer reports feeling sick the next day. Another reviewer suggests the Bottomless Bowls with a curry upgrade, and a granddaughter's high chair arriving without fuss closes one happy family lunch.

“Really enjoyed my meal, I’m vegetarian and was very impressed by the Vegan Katsu. It’s nice to be able to have this dish veganised. The atmosphere was nice in here as well. I have been here before but that was two years ago, and I far enjoyed my experience here this time compared to the last. Also amazing service from Jediah, he really made my table feel catered to and was super friendly, but also swift at taking our order and clearing our table when we were done, which I appreciate. That is what I would define as perfect service.”

“We visited Banana Tree with our family on 6th August, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience. We ordered the Laksa soup, spicy noodles, and their special drink, and everything was simply amazing. A special mention goes to Head Chef Aamir Hanif, who prepared the food brilliantly. He truly has magic in his hands! The flavours were incredible, and every dish was cooked to perfection. What impressed us even more was that Chef Aamir personally came to our table after serving the food to ask about the taste and quality. That personal touch made us feel genuinely valued as customers. Manager Jhon also welcomed us warmly and provided excellent service throughout our visit. We were honestly very happy that we chose Banana Tree instead of other takeaways. The food was outstanding, the service was superb, and the whole experience was wonderful. Highly recommended! We will definitely be visiting again. 👏🍜❤️”

“I'd recommend taking advantage of the Bottomless Bowls and upgrading to curries for full access to unlimited dishes. Most of the dishes we tried were fine, but the Beef Rendeng was the standout which we ordered multiple times throughout the meal. Our waiter Blasio was outstanding; he was attentive and proactive despite being the only waiter on the floor.”

“Wow. I can’t believe this was my first visit to Banana Tree in Hampstead because it definitely won’t be my last! We ate in the restaurant rather than ordering a takeaway, and everything was absolutely phenomenal. The duck was next level, cooked to perfection and packed with flavour. Every dish we ordered was exquisite, and neither my friend nor I left a single scrap on our plates. The staff were genuinely warm, welcoming and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. On top of that, the prices were really reasonable, and they have some fantastic deals from Sunday to Thursday that are well worth checking out. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re looking for delicious Thai food, great service and excellent value for money, Banana Tree Hampstead is an absolute must-visit. Five stars from me!!”

“We have visited a few banana trees before and had great food and wonderful service, I’m sorry to say after visiting here recently ( a small party with adults and children) we won’t be returning. The service wasn’t great, the food wasn’t upto par , the noodles were clumped together, the steak wasn’t cooked as we had asked , don’t get me started on the puddings I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole, tasted like they’d been sitting around for a while. We noticed before we left it was quite dirty in areas, (see radiator and side next to table ) and to top that all off as we journey home we all felt sick the next day we felt a little unwell and we had nothing usual that day par that food. It’s a shame as it’s our local banana tree but we won’t return to West Hampstead venue.”
