About Yashin Ocean House

Yashin Ocean House is a Japanese restaurant at 119 Old Brompton Rd in London, serving its sushi without soy sauce unless a guest asks for it. The kitchen brushes the fish and tops it with an accompaniment, so the fish itself leads each piece. Meals take place in a dining hall with Edwardian architecture, and the restaurant is open daily. The menu centres on sushi, nigiri and sashimi, with Japanese tapas alongside. Omakase comes in a 12-piece format and as a chef's bespoke menu, and the salmon belly nigiri is also served as salmon belly aburi sushi. A tasting menu runs from sushi and nigiri to grilled octopus, tempura shrimp and miso, and finishes with ice-cream. The sake list is built to go with the food, and the team can suggest a sake to match a dish.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the omakase and tasting menu, with the salmon belly nigiri named repeatedly as the standout piece, one calling it the best sushi they have had. The tasting menu is described as including grilled octopus, secreto pork, tempura shrimp and miso, and another reviewer praises the 12 piece omakase. Close behind are the sea urchin, the salted crab that paired well with sake, and otoro with truffle. Diners also mention the sashimi island, the chef selection sushi platters, tuna with rice crackers and the sparkling jasmine tea. Fresh fish is a steady thread, and several describe the service as friendly and kind, with one noting the staff stayed impeccable despite a very late arrival. Reviews carry no recurring complaint. One reviewer describes a Sunday brunch with three starters, a main, dessert and all you can eat sushi, and the same table's birthday brought an improvised dessert with a card signed by all the staff.

“wow. I don’t say this often or give all five stars reviews, but this restaurant is insanely good. Came here with 0 expectations after going to the david Lloyd nearby with my mom and came in super late as well. I was stunned by the quality of food, service and atmosphere. The innovation to use the tofu element from Miso soup as a latte like topping was incredible, the omakase was fresh, and the pork was elevated to a wagyu like texture with every bite melting. The Omakase was fresh and despite us coming in so late the service was 10-10 impeccable. Insanely good hidden gem. Will be coming back soon for the tasting menu. The price is also very low given the quality of food and service. 🤤❤️❤️❤️Good job and keep it up!!”

“The real deal. Visiting from Portugal to London for the weekend and we were craving sushi and stumbled upon this place. The food was very good, very fresh, highest quality. Ganga, our waitress, was very kind and helpful. Definitely recommend!”

“Unbelievable experience. Salmon belly nigiri is single handedly the best piece of sushi I’ve ever had, we ended up order more and more. Our waitress Sofia was delightful from start to finish, and the sparkling jasmine tea was so refreshing. Will definitely be returning.”

“This is one of the most exceptional sushi restaurant!!! The tasting menu is out of this world! It is a tase of sushi, nigiris, grilled octopus, secreto pork, tempura shrimp, miso and ice-cream. All the ingredients are fresh, and delicately prepared. The 12 piece omakase was also delicious. But the tasting menu stole the show.”
