About Il Giardino

Il Giardino is an Italian restaurant in London, on Blenheim Grove, serving homestyle Sardinian cooking in a rustic trattoria. The menu is short and built around pizza and pasta, with a 4 stagioni among the pizzas and a tagliatelle in a red sauce with minced meat. Specials run alongside it, including a seafood spaghetti. Starters and a dessert list round out the meal, and vegetarian options appear on the minimal menu. Seating continues on an upstairs level, and the wine list offers plenty of choices to pair with the food.

Customer Review Summary

Pasta draws the most attention, with diners naming tagliatelle in a red sauce with minced meat, the special seafood spaghetti, Penne Profumate and a walnut pasta dish a vegetarian enjoyed. Close behind is the fresh, homemade taste, including a 4 stagioni pizza with a wonderful base. Service is repeatedly called friendly and the atmosphere cosy, though one reviewer seated upstairs noted a noisy group. One dissenting reviewer found the food bland, the pizzas greasy and a calzone mostly mushrooms with barely any ham, described a hot dining room with one small fan, and reports an upset stomach and vomiting the next day without being certain of the cause. Others finish with tiramisu and a raspberry cheesecake, while one found the torta della Nonna a tad sweet.

“Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience. The food was bland and lacked seasoning. We ordered the calzone pizza, which had barely any ham and was mostly filled with mushrooms. On top of that, all the pizzas were extremely greasy. When we asked the barista for a wine recommendation, he didn’t even bother to answer us directly. Instead, he told the waitress to simply say that “any wine is good,” which came across as rude and unprofessional. It was an extremely hot day in London, but somehow the restaurant was even hotter inside. They only had one small fan, and at no point did they think to direct it towards the customers. I actually had to get up and go outside because I felt like I was going to faint. The open kitchen made the dining area unbearably hot. To make matters worse, the following day I experienced an upset stomach and vomiting after eating there. I can’t say for certain that it was caused by the restaurant, but it did make me wonder whether I had a mild case of food poisoning. Overall, I would not recommend this place. The service was poor, the food quality was disappointing, and the overall experience was far below expectations.”

“My girlfriend and I stumbled across this little spot and thought we’d give it a go. We weren’t expecting much from the place, we were just hungry and needed somewhere quick. To our surprise everything was fantastic!! We started with the special’s bruschetta, I followed that with the special seafood spaghetti, my girlfriend had the tagliatelle with minced meat in a red sauce, and we finished it off with sharing a tiramisu and little raspberry cheesecake. Everything exceeded our expectations, each dish was full of flavour, and we could tell everything was homemade. Cosy little atmosphere, nothing bougie about the place but we didn’t mind as it felt welcoming in its own way. The food was simply delicious, would most definitely recommend this spot!!”

“Il Giardino is exactly the kind of Italian Restaurant you hope to stumble upon -small, unpretentious and utterly charming. The atmosphere is warm and intimate, the kind of place where you instantly feel at ease, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive without being overbearing. The food is where this place really shines. We started with crostini and garlic bread -simple, but fresh and perfectly done. For mains, the Penne Profumate was beautifully fragrant and full of flavour, the 4 stagioni pizza had a wonderful base with generous quality toppings. Portions were spot on. -satisfying without being excessive. We finished with torta della Nonna, a classic italian dessert, which to be honest was a tad sweet for me. The whole food experience tasted fresh and homemade which is what you really expect from a neighbourhood italian Restaurant. We will absolutely be back and also tell our friends about it!”

“Food was lovely and came out quickly. We were upstairs with a noisy group but that couldn't be helped. Overall we enjoyed and I'd happily return again. Enjoyed the walnut pasta dish and as a veggie I felt I had some good options despite a minimal menu”
