About Mrs Wong's Chinese Restaurant
Mrs Wong's Chinese Restaurant serves Chinese food at 179 Streatham High Rd in London, and its BYO alcohol policy lets guests bring their own drinks to have with the meal. The restaurant is an established neighbourhood address with a classic menu. Beef in black bean sauce is one of the main dishes, salt and chilli chicken wings make a starter, and wonton soup is on the list as well. The dining room is plain and without frills, so the focus stays on the food and the table.

Customer Review Summary
Diners who praise the food point to tasty, good-value dishes. One regular recommends the beef and black bean sauce and the salt and chilli chicken wings, and a takeaway customer singles out the chicken chow mein and chicken fried rice with sweet and sour sauce. Two reviewers describe friendly, warm staff, and one says the BYOB policy keeps the bill down. Another calls it no nonsense, tasty food rather than a flashy interior. The complaints are just as specific. One delivered order had a curry that tasted like water, egg fried rice with zero flavour and bland wonton soup, though the hot and sour soup was good. Another found a dish that was mostly rice with no vegetables and meat with a horrible taste, and one questions how fresh the ingredients are. Two reviewers say the restaurant changed hands and name, and that the recent negative reviews reflect the new ownership. One Deliveroo customer, whose order arrived late, says the restaurant hung up on two calls and was still waiting for a refund.

“People have no idea what a good Chinese restaurant is like; it's the best Chinese restaurant in London. I always come here with my girlfriend.”

“Accepted my Deliveroo order. 30 minutes late, I call them to ask where my order is. They explain they are not delivering to me and put the phone down on me. I call back. They hang up immediately. Shocking service, do not recommend. Waiting for money back.”

“went here months ago and it was brilliant. Ive just received my order today and the curry is horrible and bland it taste like water. The egg fried rice also has zero flavour. The wonton soup was also very bland and the cabbage looked really old. The hot and sour soup was good but the rest was garbage”

“This listing needs to be changed to reflect that this restaurant is not Mrs Wong's. It went under new ownership and changed its name to 'Cozy Woods' many years ago. All the more recent and largely negative reviews reflect this new restaurant, not the Streatham institution that was Mrs Wong's, and frankly they are a stain on the good name of what was once an incredibly beloved community favourite. Cozy Woods, stop trying to capitalise on the reputation and goodwill built up by the real Mrs Wong's over many decades. Much love to the original owners and staff.”

“Have ordered from here a few times and food has always been pretty tasty with a good variety of vegetables. Unfortunately today the sweet and sour pork arrived with half cooked and half raw pieces. We didn't realise we were playing gastro russian roulette until having already eaten a few pieces. Won't be using this restaurant again, unfortunately they've really let themselves down”
