About Leo's Cafe

On Stoke Newington Rd in London, Leo's Cafe is a cafe at number 12 that opens daily and serves breakfast early, including on Saturdays. The business has traded under the Leo's Cafe name for more than 100 years, and for the last 10 years a chef-led venture has run the kitchen, which gives the name a long record at this address. The menu centres on breakfast. The Full English comes with coffee or tea included, and the numbered veggie breakfast pairs eggs and hash browns with halloumi, mushrooms, beans, spinach and avocado. Menemen sits alongside the set plates for those who want an egg dish of a different kind. Breakfast items can be swapped out on request, so a plate can be adjusted to suit the person ordering it.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for the full English breakfast, praising the eggs, crunchy sausages, juicy mushrooms and toast, and several mention it as a fix after a hangover. The veggie breakfast comes close behind, with one diner describing halloumi, hash browns, spinach and avocado, and another getting swaps made without extra charge. Others single out the cheese omelette and the menemen. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and a few describe a community feel and fast service. Coffee is called good, and one reviewer notes the full breakfast comes with tea or coffee. The criticism is mixed. One reviewer found the portions small compared with a kebab and chips nearby, and another reported fermented vegetables, cheap ingredients and an unappealing plate, though the toast was fine. One diner also remarked on a worker removing excess chips by hand in front of a customer. Among the happier accounts, one reviewer was given a free extra side salad.

“Worst bubble ever. Couldn't manage a mouthful. The veg had fermented. The rest wasn't much better. Whole breakfast looked unappealing. Cheap ingredients. Toast OK. Stick to making naan bread.”

“Absolutely beautiful! Stunning presentation and perfectly cooked everything – eggs, golden hash browns, crispy halloumi, mushrooms, beans, spinach and avocado all together. Hearty, healthy and looks incredible – better than most café breakfasts! 💙👏”

“If you want a filling and cheap full English breakfast (with coffee or tea included!), this is your place. Service is excellent. Food is just proper cafe grub but done really well - its not pretending to be Michelin star. Perfect place if you wake up with hangover, or just want a big breakfast for the day ahead.”

“Portions are not so big, coffee is good. For same price I had huuge kebab with chips yesterday 50m away which I had to finish in evening. Good breakfast option tho. One tip: if you put too much chips, don't take them off by your hand in front of the client 🥴”

“Had the best veggie brunch at Leo’s today! They were able to swap items out that I didn’t want with no hassle or extra charge. I even got an extra side salad for free as I was feeling greedy .. Best service, real community vibe and fresh tasty food which is most important 🌸✨”
