Customer Review Summary
Pies draw the most mentions. One reviewer calls the chicken pie delicious and another enjoyed the steak and ale pie, though a third sent back a lukewarm steak pie and said the chips and peas at the table were cold. Sausage and mash gets praise from one diner, and sticky toffee pudding is a new favorite for one reviewer and part of a shared, excellent lunch for another. Sunday roast splits opinion. Turkey and beef pleased one table, while another found the beef overcooked and everything else dry. Staff are described as friendly and kind in most reviews, and drinks as generous, though one reviewer describes a confrontation in front of their table. The most detailed complaint involves fish and chips with burnt-tasting, soft and oily batter, followed by a replacement of dry gammon, a microwaved-looking egg and microwaved mash. Two reviewers fault the restrooms, one describing grime and broken fittings in the gents. That same reviewer noted the bartender offered to change the meal.

“To start with the good part. The staff were lovely and friendly. They really worked hard and despite us turning up very early for our booking managed to seat us which was really appreciated. However, the food was severely lacking. My pie and chips arrived lukewarm. I sent it back as a lukewarm steak pie isn't safe to eat. My mum said her chips and peas were also cold, but she stuck with it. The gents toilets were disgusting. And it wasn't just that it had been busy that day. It was worn in grime and broken fittings. My mum said the accessable toilet wasn't great either.”

“This was our first time visiting a pub in London. We loved the food served here at Hoop & Toy and the waiters were absolutely kind and courteous. Loved the overall atmosphere as well. The only thing we didn’t like that much was the restroom (from a hygienic perspective). We do recommend a visit at Hoop & Toy!”

“Possibly the worst pub food I’ve had ever. I’m not a person who feels comfortable with complaining, but even I had to send our fish & chips back to the kitchen. Fish batter tasted burnt, yet was soft and oily…. They can only be using old oil 🤢 Bar tender was great to be fair, offered to change our meal for another… and suggested we chose something that didn’t involve oil. Ruled out much of the menu. Tried grilled gammon and sausage & mash… Gammon was dry, egg had been nuked (picture attached) chips were basic oven chips, sausages were grim and mash definitely microwaved. We didn’t have time/the will to complain again, so gave up. Don’t know if they had no chef for the night or something, but how this place has 4.5 star reviews I have no idea. Greene King - you should be ashamed of yourselves.”

“Has Sunday roast here. The huge icy diet Coke was awesome. We had the turkey and beef Sunday roast. Born were amazing, although the turkey was just a bit more amazing! Sticky toffee pudding? this is a new favorite hands down.”
