About The Sultan
The Sultan is an Indian restaurant on Hall Street in Llanelli, drawing steady takeaway orders alongside its sit-down service. The kitchen serves classic dishes such as lamb Madras and a tandoori king prawn starter that comes with fresh onion salad and mint sauce, while plain and pilau rice are on hand as accompaniments. The counter staff run a friendly, helpful front-of-house, and the restaurant stays open on days when many other local restaurants shut, which keeps the dining room busy across the week. Orders are placed at the counter for collection, with the takeaway side of the business well used by regulars.

Customer Review Summary
Most diners single out the Lamb Madras and tandoori king prawn starter as standout dishes, with slow-cooked, tender meat and richly spiced, layered sauces drawing consistent praise. Friendly staff and generous portions also come up repeatedly. One diner describes the food as precooked and microwaved, citing rubbery chicken tikka, bad pilau rice, and an unhygienic sofa. Another notes no contact after a Just Eat complaint.

“Lamb Madras, Rice & Tandoori King Prawn Starter We kicked off our meal with the tandoori king prawns, and right from the first bite I knew we were in for something special. Each prawn was wonderfully large, plump and meaty – exactly what you hope for when you order this dish. They carried that perfect signature tandoori flavour; beautifully marinated in yogurt, ginger, garlic and warm spices, with just the right gentle smoky note from the clay oven cooking. The outside had that lovely slight char and crispness, while inside the flesh remained tender, juicy and sweet – not dried out at all, which is so important with seafood. Served with fresh onion salad and a little mint sauce, it was a light, vibrant and delicious start to the meal, packed with authentic taste. Moving onto the main event, my Lamb Madras was absolutely outstanding. The meat was cut into generous chunks, every piece melt-in-the-mouth soft and falling apart easily, proof it had been cooked slowly and patiently for hours until perfectly tender. The sauce was rich, deep and beautifully layered – thick, glossy and full of bold flavour. It had that characteristic warm heat you expect from a Madras; spicy enough to wake up your palate and give that lovely satisfying tingle, but never harsh or overpowering, so you could still clearly taste the complex blend of cumin, coriander, chilli, fenugreek and aromatic spices throughout. There was a lovely depth of richness and tang too, balanced perfectly, and it tasted homemade and traditional, nothing artificial or over-processed here. Accompanying it, the plain rice was exactly how it should be – fluffy, light and separate, every grain perfectly cooked and not sticky or clumpy at all. It was soft and fragrant, acting as the ideal partner to soak up that incredible sauce, and it was seasoned subtly so it complemented the strong flavours of the curry without fighting against them. Simple as it is, good rice makes such a difference, and this was spot on. Overall this was a fantastic meal from start to finish. Every dish was fresh, well-prepared, packed with authentic flavours and clearly made with care and good quality ingredients. Portion sizes were generous too, great value for money. I’d happily order this exact combination again, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves proper, flavourful Indian cooking. 🍛🍤”

“The food was awful. Chicken tikka starter rubbery, pilau rice not nice. Saag was nice. Have put in a just eat review but still no contact from the restaurant. Poor. Very disappointing as usually good reviews. First order so gutted.”

“Overnight in town, so based on previous reviews decided to give The Sultan a try. Fantastic food and very friendly and helpful staff. It's a shame there was not many customers in at the time (so could only give 3 stars). However lots of takeaway orders taken. Most places in town seem to be closed on Mondays so maybe more diners towards the weekend. Will definitely be returning when we get the chance.”

“This place is awful and the staff is too weird. They don’t even give people time to think and check the menu before ordering. The quality of the food is not that great it seems to be precooked and microwaved just before giving to customer. Also, if you get to sit in the red sofa then you have bad day because that Sofa stinks so bad and it is very unhygienic place to sit. Visit at your own risk. Unfortunately there is no option for zero star”
