About Food Leigh-on-Sea
Food Leigh-on-Sea is a gluten-free fine dining restaurant at 92 Leigh Rd in Leigh On Sea, serving a four-course seasonal menu that changes daily with what local farmers and fishermen deliver. The produce is local, organic and sustainably minded, and the kitchen includes gluten-free sourdough. The tasting menu comes with optional wine or drink pairings, and the wines are organic or biodynamic. The team introduces each course with an explanation of its ingredients. Sunday brings a roast, with several amuse-bouche, a starter, dessert and a sweet treat alongside the main, plus free-flowing wines for a set two-hour window. The dining room is small, and meals are paced so diners do not feel rushed. The restaurant opens Wednesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the tasting menu with wine pairing, praising courses introduced with a clear explanation of the ingredients and organic or biodynamic wines described as excellent. Seasonal, locally sourced produce runs through the praise, with reviewers citing innovative flavours, a fish dish and vegetable plates that won over one diner who usually avoids both, and gluten free sourdough another calls the best they have had. Close behind is the service, described as friendly, knowledgeable and warm, with a pace that never feels rushed and a mood that is intimate but not stuffy. Several celebrated anniversaries and special occasions here. The caveats are small: one reviewer thought portions looked a little small before a three course lunch proved just right, and another says the restaurant's footprint makes it not so great for wheelchairs. One Sunday regular warns against driving because of the free flowing wine. That Sunday roast arrives with three amuse bouche, a starter, dessert and a sweet treat, which one diner calls practically a tasting menu.

“Great food, Sunday roast included three amuse bouche, starter, dessert and a sweet treat. Not forgetting the main course roast itself. So practically a tasting menu.”

“Without a doubt, by far and away, the best dining experience anywhere in the local area. If you want quality food, amazing service, and cracking ambience, this is the place for you. The technique on display is fantastic and every dish is crafted to perfection. Each dish hits the spot for flavour and texture. I've been here for the Sunday roast twice, and the tasting menu once, and they even had me enjoying fish - which I actively avoid, and wolfing down vegetable dishes. This has been a 10/10 experience every time I've been, and the wait staff and kitchen staff have phenomenal product knowledge. The wine pairings were awesome. I cannot speak highly enough of this place. If you are in the Southend or leigh area, you are doing yourself a disservice by not hitting this gaff up. Exquisite. I'd you're going on a Sunday, they do free flowing wines for 2hrs - don't drive if you like a drink. Make the most of the experience and enjoy yourself. Unbelievable value for money. A steal. If I had the money and they were open, I'd eat there every day. 😂”

“We tried the taster menu with the wine pairing at the weekend, and the whole experience was absolutely first class. Each course was introduced with a clear explanation of the ingredients, which really added to it. The wines were excellent as well. We never felt rushed, and the service was genuinely warm and friendly. It’s officially my new favourite place to eat in Leigh‑on‑Sea”
