About Gaucho Leeds
Gaucho Leeds is a steak house on Park Row in the Victorian Quarter of Leeds, with its dining room in a dimly lit basement. Steaks are the mains and come with chips, while starters include truffle and cheese croquettes and a prawn dish. The kitchen runs a set menu and a lunch deal alongside the a la carte menu, and the drinks list covers cocktails and wine. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome. Guests who bring their own wine pay a corkage charge.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the main draw, with several diners saying it arrived cooked exactly as ordered, from a rib eye at medium rare to a rare steak one reviewer says is usually overcooked elsewhere. Close behind are the starters, especially the prawn starter and the scallops, and one reviewer singles out a pancake dessert with caramel and nutty ice cream. The recurring complaints cluster around the sauces and sides. Reviewers describe a watery pepper sauce, a red wine jus like water, truffle croquettes with no truffle taste, and steaks that were too salty. One found the rump steak's seaweed and olive oil sauce left the dish tasting mostly of salt. Small portions of chips and a grainy, overset coconut panna cotta also come up, and one calls the chateaubriand average for the cost. Service is mostly described as friendly and attentive, though one found it a little rushed and another a bit icy. The basement room is called dark and moody. Staff earned praise for giving a diner's dog a complimentary steak and for a personalised birthday brownie.

“Food was average, watery pepper sauce, red wine jus was like water not a jus.. no flavour.. cheese and truffle croquettes couldn’t taste any truffle in them at all… chateaubriand was £115 and average. Lacking atmosphere and character. Won’t come back… prawn starter was really good but overall it is very experience for a mediocre dining experience. Service was great however.”

“Went for the £10 lunch pp. Awesome deal, meagre portions but what can we expect with those prices for 2 courses right? Tasty food, with generous lobster for the linguine and probably the best steak sandwich I've had in a long time but the dessert - coconut panna cotta was probably the worst I've ever had - grainy, overset, tasteless with an over done, curdled mango coulis. We added the truffle potato croquettes to our order from the a la carte menu and the portion size for it was generous, understandably at full price. Tasted fab. Pricey drinks hence we spent £45+ despite the deal. The ambience is geared towards night time - dark, moody, in a basement so was particularly odd on a hot summer's day. Service was good if a bit icy.”

“Nice ambience (we don't like loud or too rowdy places). Gorgeous steaks. The best we've had. Lovely cocktails. Great service. Perfect for a date night as we chatted away all during it. Not too close to others.”

“Overall a decent experience Visited on a Tuesday evening, restaurant was busy and buzzy - a few graduation groups in. We went for snacks, starters and mains. Snacks were decent. Starters of tuna tartare ok - lots of avocado, some nice heat from the dressing and the topping gave a great crunch to an otherwise soft textured dish. What should have been the star of the show - the tuna - was sadly overwhelmed by the other elements, especially that avocado which smothered the flavour and texture. Less would be more in this case. Mains were rib eye steaks which were cooked bang on medium rare, appeared to be well rested and some good grill lines for flavour. Couldn’t really fault it. The mushrooms alongside were also nicely done. Chips that came with were a bit of a small portion. Drinks wise, an excellent Albariño was a great match for the snacks and the tartare. We then had a red we had bought with us, paying £35 for corkage. Service in the main good - friendly and attentive. Not cheap but pricing looks on a par with other more ‘premium’ restaurants of this type.”

“Fantastic experience from start to finish. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. The staff were incredibly accommodating to our dog and even treated her to a complimentary steak, which was a lovely touch. Our own steaks were cooked perfectly, and the service was exceptional throughout. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this place.”
