Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draw the most praise at this Leeds takeaway, with reviewers calling the fish tasty and the chips excellent or perfect, and singling out generous portions. Close behind is the welcome: the couple running it and the new owners are described as friendly and polite, chatting while orders are packed, with service that stays quick even when busy. Beyond that, reviewers mention a perfect spam fritter, specials one calls the best they have had, and a sausage in hard crispy batter. One notes most things are cooked to order and suggests ordering in advance to save waiting. Value for money comes up as well, and one reviewer recalls family visits going back decades.

“The best place for fish and chips. I won't eat fish from anywhere else around here. Now under new management since my review. The food is just as nice if not better. Most things are cooked to order, so you might want to order in advance, to save waiting when you get there.”

“Where do we start … opened in 1938 and you can tell - an overall positive and joyful experience, obvious errors yet no where is great. The batter is one of their errors - the fish could have stayed in the deep fat fryer for another minute, resulting in a more crisp coating that reflects the decency of the overall meal. The fish therefore was a little on the soggy side, causing it to get stuck to the paper which was however wrapped well (unlike most places these days). Another issue was the girth and voluptuousity of the flaky fish, it could be said it was caught back in 1938 with how small and skinny it was - a real disappointment since the taste was on point. However what we had was tasty and managed to tingle the tastebuds on our tongues. The sausage was alright - nothing special yet still nothing not special, a nice meaty porker with a semi thick skin, good girth and a hard crispy batter - sounds just like a good Friday night. The curry sauce was more like schools rice pudding, this however was not a bad aspect. Though having a thick chunky sauce we managed to get double the flavour and avoid the limb chips and fish. The chips were pale and needed a good holiday in Ibiza to get a tan - yet, yet again they were still pleasant and were drained well, this preventing a pool of oil from forming. Would we come again? Yes”

“This was one of the best fish shops in area but now wouldn't recommend to anyone The fish was greasy and soggy the chips were barely warm and soggy very greasy how they have a 4.8☆ rating I've no idea the people that rated haven't a clue what good fish and chips taste like won't ever buy them from here again”

“I have to say being in the construction industry I have tried lots of chip shops over the years but this is the best fish shop Ive ever been to. The specials are the best I've ever had if I could give it more stars I would spot on to the new owners 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍”
