About The Layby Café
On Wakefield Rd, The Layby Café operates out of a blue container hut just off the M62 at junction 30, overlooking open fields. The griddle turns out bacon and sausage sandwiches cooked to order, alongside a mushroom sandwich made on a separate griddle for vegetarians. Sandwiches use locally sourced produce from a nearby butcher and baker, and drinks run to Yorkshire tea and filter coffee. Seating outside lets customers eat while looking over the fields, and power sockets with USB ports are available for charging a phone or laptop while parked up. There is no booking, this is a walk-in stop, and it opens Monday to Friday during the day, closed at weekends. A 2-hour parking limit is signed at the lay-by for anyone stopping in.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the bacon sandwich and sausage sandwiches, cooked to order from a converted blue container just off the M62. Several credit the sausages, eggs and bread as proper, locally sourced produce, and one calls the sausage and mushroom sandwich the best around. Close behind are the filter coffee and Yorkshire tea, which diners repeatedly praise. Others mention homemade double chocolate cookies, hand-made burgers with relish, and a mushroom sandwich made on a separate griddle for a vegetarian. Value comes up often, with logistics workers and passing drivers describing the prices as good for a large sausage sandwich and a coffee. Reviewers also note friendly service, outdoor seating overlooking open fields, and power sockets with USB for charging phones or laptops. The one complaint is indirect: a reviewer says HGV drivers have grumbled about parking, while pointing out that signs limit stays to two hours and that large trucks parked in front of the hut hurt the owner's business. Several say they have been back since, including one who stops by once a week.

“Home made double chocolate cookies... OMG they are amazing!!!!! Great tasting bacon sandwich cooked to order. Made with locally sourced quality produce, from nearby butcher and baker. Good value and top quality. Yorkshire tea, good filter coffee (enjoyed!) and cold drinks too. Been back to try the sausages and hand-made burgers and relish! All fab! Power sockets incl USB for charging your phone or laptop. Very friendly service, relaxed and everything cooked and made the way *you* want it.”

“Who would have thought that this little blue hut produced the best butties about? Also, to the HGV drivers complaining about the parking, look at the signs, it clearly states 2 hours and you parking your big truck in front of his hut hurts his business, wheres the common sense these days? 🙄”
