About Local Hero
In Kingston Upon Thames, Local Hero is a coffee shop at 22 Thames St that serves breakfast alongside its coffee. The kitchen turns out tzatziki poached eggs on toast, and French toast sits on the same breakfast menu. Pastries fill out the counter, with a cinnamon bun among them. Guests order and pay at the table, so there is no queue at a counter. The shop is open daily and keeps daytime hours only, which makes it a stop for breakfast and an afternoon coffee rather than an evening visit.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast is what draws most reviewers to Local Hero, with the poached eggs on toast singled out repeatedly, including the tzatziki version, alongside French toast and avocado toast. Close behind are the baked goods, where the cinnamon bun is praised as light and airy, and the custard tart and carrot cake also earn mentions. Several call the coffee, latte and hot chocolate good, and one praises the lemonade. Staff come across as friendly, kind and quick, and one table was welcomed warmly on a birthday. Complaints are specific. One reviewer who is also a barista was handed a burnt, overly hot ristretto after ordering a double espresso, and got the right drink only after insisting, though they liked the grinder setup and the vibe. Another found a ham and cheese croissant over toasted, and one wished the poached eggs came with two slices of sourdough because the single piece looked tiny. One reviewer calls the price a bit on the higher side, and another notes only one toilet. Ordering and paying at the table without queuing earns a mention.

“I come to Local Hero every few months for breakfast and it is always delicious, I order the same thing and it's consistent. Poached eggs on toast and French toast is always tasty, and the coffee is great. My only feedback/critique is I think the poached eggs on toast should come with 2 pieces of sourdough. not 1. The piece of bread is tiny and very thin (though tasty) and I always have to order an extra slice. 2 eggs require 2 slices of bread! Please consider changing this. It's so tasty but comes out looking a bit sad as it's so small - just something to consider. Service is always friendly, and quick. Good spot for brekky.”

“I visited yesterday for the first time and it was ok. I had a ham and cheese croissant which was over toasted and I really didn’t enjoy it. My friend had a cappuccino and with split bill we paid £4.75 each. There is only one (!) toilet which was fairly clean. There was a dog inside so they are obviously allowed and I can only hope the tables are properly disinfected, not just wiped. The staff were friendly and I liked that we were able to order at the table and pay there, without having to queue.”
