The Crab Hut
Quick info
About The Crab Hut
The Crab Hut is a small takeaway hut for fish and seafood on the harbour at the Staithe, on Harbour Way in Kings Lynn. There is no seating on site, so customers carry their order to the car park overlooking the harbour, where they can sit or walk around while they eat. The menu runs to seafood subs and rolls filled with crab, crayfish, prawns or mixed seafood, including a crayfish and mango chilli sub. A crab hut special puts crab, prawns and crayfish in a soft roll. Dressed crab comes with brown and white meat, and small and large pots of mixed seafood suit those who want something lighter than a sub. Cockles, a prawn tub and pickled herring are also on offer. A queue forms at busy times. Dogs are welcome, which suits walkers making a stop along the harbour.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the crab sub or roll, with some travelling a long way for it and describing the crab as fresh. Close behind is the crayfish special with mango and chilli, which two reviewers single out, along with the crab hut special of crab, prawns and crayfish in a soft roll. Others mention cockles, a prawn tub of small prawns, dressed crab, and pots of seafood with brown and white crab meat. Portions are called generous, and several describe good value compared with local prices. The women serving are called lovely, helpful and chatty, though one reviewer finds them polite but not overly friendly. As a takeaway hut it has no seating, so reviewers eat by the car park or wander the harbour. One reviewer queued and still thought it well worth it. A solo visitor returned a couple of days after a first lunch for a large pot of seafood and a crab to take away for tea.

“We rarely post on Google maps but this is a must. The seafood subs are the best we have ever eaten, and we're always looking for a great crab or seafood sarnie when we are on holiday and passing through. So fresh and packed with filling. Also reasonably priced. They do a range of subs - crab, crayfish, prawns and and I loved the crayfish and mango chilli sub. As it is a hut it is takeaway food. Situated at the marsh area the fresh air and views complement the experience. If we pass by again we'll be stopping for the dressed crab.”

“Absolutely excellent visit today. Fantastic value, £12 for two subs full of crab/ mixed seafood. These were loaded up and very fresh. It's so nice to feel like you have good value for money these days. Thank you, we will be back again soon 🦀🦐”

“We had such a wonderful visit today. There is truly nothing better than enjoying fresh food right by the water on a beautiful sunny day. The crab roll was absolutely delicious and tasted so fresh. It is the perfect spot for a quick, high-quality bite while taking in the views. I even noticed they stock Margaret's Country Kitchen treats in the display case, which was a lovely surprise. We will definitely be back.”

“Great little no nonsense shack with fresh seafood on the harbour. Nothing fancy. Just the seafood. Crayfish special with mango and chilli hit the spot, with prawn tub (small prawns) also very fresh. Lovely chatty bunch. Doing a great service in the heat!”

“It may only be a hut selling food but the crab is to die for and we quite often travel quite a long way to buy a crab subroll from here. Its the highlight of a day at the seaside. The ladies who run it are very polite but not overly friendly.”
