About Pearl River Restaurant
Pearl River Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant on John Kennedy Rd in Kings Lynn, run as an order-off-the-menu buffet. Starters and mains can be ordered more than once, and each dish is brought fresh to the table, so there is no queuing at a counter. The order of the meal runs starters first, then duck, then mains. The menu covers meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes, and a vegetarian and vegan section includes salt & pepper tofu and mock duck. Cocktails and mocktails sit on the drinks list. Staff go through allergy and food options with guests at the table. Painted exotic birds and carvings decorate the dining room. The restaurant opens evenings only and closes on Tuesdays.

Customer Review Summary
The caveats are scattered but specific. One reviewer found the service rough, saying staff seemed disgruntled when asked for more food, and felt the mains all tasted like the same base with different sauces. Another notes mains went cool when too many dishes were ordered at once, and a third found the chillies and onions tasteless and the meal a bit pricey. Portions are described as small enough to order seven starters between two people.

“We visited Pearl River in King’s Lynn last week with a group of friends and had a fantastic evening. The food was absolutely superb – every dish was fresh and full of flavour. The service was equally impressive, with friendly, attentive staff who made us feel really welcome from the moment we arrived. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and everything ran smoothly despite us being a group. It’s easy to see why Pearl River has such a good reputation. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for excellent Chinese food in King’s Lynn.”

“We visited a few weeks ago and the experience wasn't great. We were told it was because they were unexpectedly busy so we thought we'd try again to see how it is the second time. Unfortunately the service was rough, the staff seem to have strange attitudes, and the vegetarian food was nothing special. The main courses all appeared to be the same base meal with different sauces and spices added, although we ordered a range of meals we felt we were eating the same off all the plates. It was also peculiar how they either over served or under served quantities and when we asked for more they were notably disgruntled and unhappy about it even though their offering is buffet style to the table. That all said it must be difficult running a food business these days and we wish them well, but would suggest they might want to improve their service levels in order to attract repeat customers.”

“A bit pricey, but food is pretty good on the whole. Chillies and onions as flavour are not up to standard. No taste at all. But everything else is good 👍”

“The buffet is a case of order as many starters as you like, then move through the duck and mains. The portions are small, so that you can order 7 starters between you and only feel it was 1 too many! Mains did get cool by the time we'd finished, I'd order fewer dishes at a time next time.”

“The restaurant were able to sort out a great order for a large takeaway group on a busy Friday evening. The food was delicious and even though there were over 20 dishes, each one was fresh and as tasty as the other. The staff I dealt with on the ordering process were amazing and the the staff upon collection were polite, friendly and even offered to help carry to the car. 10/10 would recommend if you are in the area.”
