About The Ship Irvine Ayrshire
Beside the water at Irvine harbour, The Ship Irvine Ayrshire is an independent gastropub at 122 Harbour St, run by the same family for over 30 years. The old-fashioned building holds both a bar and a restaurant, so a visit can mean a pint or cocktail at the bar or a full meal at the table. The menu includes pies, among them a chicken, bacon and leek pie served in its own individual dish. Sunday roast comes with a larger "butchers special" option for bigger appetites. Brunch is also served, and sticky toffee pudding is among the desserts. The Ship is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Pies draw the most mentions, from a chicken, bacon and leek pie in rough puff pastry with creamy mash, called absolutely delicious, to a steak pie with crisp pastry and well-cooked vegetables, though its filling was dry and chewy with too little gravy. Lemon meringue and sticky toffee pudding earn praise, and one reviewer calls desserts a must. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive. Reviewers also note the dog friendly setting, the traditional surroundings and toilets that would suit a high end city restaurant. Complaints centre on the food: tough dry chicken, a confusing menu where add-ons make costs unclear, pale pigs in blankets and awful parsnips on a Sunday roast that was almost comically large, and a room so cold one guest had to ask for heating. One diner found a chicken burger greasy and the bacon mostly fat, and the replacement bacon arrived on a side plate and went untouched.

“Very nice place attentive staff place with lots of character. Will eat properly next time this time we were tolerated for a wee meeting which was kind. Only soup chips coffee and a nice peppercorn soup. 3 chips 1 sauce 1 soup 1 Coffee and 5 doft drinks 43 pounds you decide if thats good value. From my view we used the facility for nearly 2 hrs so I would say yes.”

“Nice location. Traditional Surroundings. Excellent pint. Unfortunately the food let it down. Tuff dry chicken. Flavour combinations that just don't come out the way they are desribed. Confusing menu. Add-on's everywhere makes it not clear how much some meal options are. Overpriced!!. Honestly Put.”

“First time eating in here in years & it was as good as always. It's a beautiful old fashioned building & situated right beside the water, inside the restaurant is lovely aswell & it's well kept. I got a large pepsi to drink & my wife got a cola. We got the Steak pie as our main meal, as that what we used to get when we used to come here, it arrived & it looked great, definitely smaller portions from years ago but it was still a good portrait, with chips & vegetables, the vegetables were cooked perfectly & the chips had a good crisp to them, the pastry on the steak pie was really good & crispy, if I'm honest the steak in the pie itself was quite dry & chewy & definitely could have been doing with more gravy, another negative would be, I asked the waitress for brown sauce & she brought over the sauce in a tiny portion & there was so little sauce, a ant couldn't have drowned in it. But apart from a couple of negatives We would definitely return here, the service was great & the food arrived very quickly.”

“Good to see a Sunday Roast being offered in the area... Everyone knows The Ship, it may have changed over the years, but it remains an Ayrshire institution. The food was good.. but the roast is almost comically large if you choose the butchers special. There were a couple of small issues, the pigs in blankets were atrociously pale and the parsnips were awful, however, everything else on the plate/box was delicious. We'll definitely be back, but will avoid the larger roast options or share.”
