About Bert’s Humber Street

Facing the harbour on Humber St in Hull, Bert's Humber Street is an Italian restaurant built around homemade small plates of pasta, with a room that looks over the water at 1 Humber St. The meal starts with Cicchetti (Italian tapas), followed by pasta dishes such as tortellini and seafood pasta. Plates come in different sizes, so a table can order several portions and share a bit of everything. Wine is the intended pairing for the pasta. The kitchen also serves a Sunday lunch. Inside, designer furniture fills the dining room.

Customer Review Summary

Pasta draws the most praise, with diners singling out the tortellini as some of the best they have had, along with a tagliatelle Alfredo, a seafood pasta and nachos made with pasta tortilla chips. Close behind are the tiramisu, garlic bread, halibut steak and chicken arrabiata, plus sandwiches and a salted caramel milkshake. Servers are repeatedly described as friendly and knowledgeable, and reviewers mention vegetarian requests handled well and late arrivals still being seated. The interior is called light and spacious, and the harbour view gets a mention too. The main trade-off is portion size: reviewers say small plates mean ordering more than one, and one diner felt hungry again a couple of hours later. A few service lapses stand out. One visitor found a waitress rude about ordering ice cream outside and called the ice cream poor. A party of 11 was told only after ordering that calamari and burgers were nearly gone, and then received a triple chocolate brownie left in the microwave so long it was too hot.

“We were a party of 11 booked in for Sunday lunch to celebrate my mums birthday, arrived and ordered drinks, menus handed out, when we were ready to order, the waitress decided to let us know that there was only one portion of calamari and only 2 burgers, had she told us when she gave us the menus people would have known not to order those items that were in short supply. We ordered triple chocolate brownie for dessert, but this was ruined as it was left in the microwave for far too long, making it too hot and spoiled the taste.”

“I took my grandson out for a treat we wanted an ice cream and a very cold drink. I waited inside for a seat the place only had 4 people in but still waited 10 minutes. I was told to order outside at the booth I explained we wanted drinks and was told by a very rude waitress yes order outside. There was no drinks list outside so just had to guess what they had. We got our ice cream and drinks and sat inside but noticed another family had arrived the sat outside but the waitress had given them a drinks list and took their ice cream to them. The quality of ice cream was poor you got hardly any in a tub for £3:50. I recommend walk a little way up Humber where there’s better places with more friendly staff.”

“I made a visit with my life long friend today for brunch, coffee and long needed catch up. We were greeted by Mary, a smiley, professional, obliging and friendly, waitress. Mary, was extremely polite, helpful and could not do enough for us with regards, vegatarian requests made for food, aswell as drinks. In addition, everything was presented well and cooked to perfection by the in house chef. All came as ordered. Mary ensured we were looked after for the afternoon and proved efficient, throughout our numerous requests. Mary is a great asset to 'Burts on Humber Street, ' and has a can do, positive outgoing persona and attitude. Perfect experience encountered and executed. We will be returning again for this reason. Overall, a lovely atmosphere and customer service at a reasonable cost! Thank you Mary and the team at Burts. August 27th, 2026. PM visit. Lee”

“We arrived close to closing time and eather than turn us away, the friendly waitress showed us to our seats. The interior is so fresh, bright and clean, the music was excellent and the important bit, the food......... Wow! It was absolutely outstanding, the chicken arrabiata was unlike anything else that I have sampled. An absolute gem of a place.”

“My mum and I visited for dinner today for the first time and had a lovely prosciutto sandwich and chicken BLT sandwich. The food was delicious. Our server, Hannah, was really lovely, friendly and knowledgable. Service and food was very speedy as well, ever with it being really busy.”
