Quick info
About Pasco's Italian
On Kings Parade in Cottingham, Pasco's Italian is an Italian restaurant with an informal, family-focused setup. Large groups can pre-order their food, which settles a big table's meal ahead of the visit. The menu runs to 14 dishes across pizza, pasta and antipasti. Pasta and pizza include the calzone and the linguine marinara, and a calamari starter opens the meal. Bruschetta arrives with bread, and steak and chips and sizzler dishes sit alongside the pasta and pizza. Parmesan and black pepper are offered at the table. The drinks list starts with a house wine and includes the Chianti Coli Aretini, along with Italian reds such as a Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore from Aldegheri.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the pasta and the tasty Italian food, with several saying the flavour held up even on bad nights and one calling the dishes authentic and reasonably priced. Friendly waiters, a clean room and a willingness to make child portions of any pasta or pizza dish come up in the happier reviews. The recurring complaint is service. Several describe only two staff covering a full restaurant, slow drinks, orders not taken, missing cutlery and no manager in sight. Reviewers also name kitchen misses: bruschetta bread with raw dough inside, a raw calzone, soggy pizzas, a rare steak served medium, overcooked seafood in the linguine marinara and calamari, and a stodgy carbonara. Some longtime customers say prices have crept up and the family charm has faded since the change of ownership. After complaints, staff took a starter and a failed meal off the bills.

“Booked for a table of 14 and pre ordered the food as requested. From the moment we arrived we could tell that the 2 young ladies were struggling to serve tables and get drinks orders. Despite their best efforts they desperately needed more staff members and management. We saw numerous people leaving due to waiting 30mins+ to even get a drink. The restaurant was half full at most but we were unable to order another drink, get sides and we didn't even get close to a desert. Parmesan and black pepper was offered but by the time it arrived most had finished their meals. One of the pre ordered meals was missed too. I will say that most agreed that the food was actually quite tasty although none of the sizzler dishes were sizzling in anyway so not sure how long they were stood for. Disappointing as we used to go to pascos quite a lot but won't be racing back in a hurry.”

“Really disappointed in our experience tonight. When we arrived it wasn’t too busy but there was only 2 members of staff in, one on the bar and one on the floor (none of the following is directed at them). My partner ordered a pint of Moretti which was flat - we saw the staff member behind the bar trying to top it up with Cruzcampo before it was served. He asked if he could have a Cruzcampo instead which when it arrived was discoloured and tasted awful, the staff member was happy for him to have a bottle of beer instead and stated they’ve been having issues with their pumps. Our starter of Ndjua Calabrese and Bruschetta came and the bread was so hard and stale it was difficult to eat, presentation was poor and it was covered in pieces of raw garlic. Our mains arrived approximately 30 seconds after our starters and were practically inedible. My partner’s calzone dough was raw throughout and covered in grated cheese from a packet including clumps of cheese which had stuck together in the packet. My carbonara had clearly been sitting under a heater or warmed up as when it arrived it was too hot to eat and the sauce had gone stodgy, it just tasted overwhelmingly of cheese and nothing else, clearly not made from scratch and the pasta wasn’t fresh. It was also completely swimming in oil. When we gave our feedback to the staff member he happily took the food off the bill however there was not one senior member of staff or team leader to speak to about it, nor did he pass the feedback on to the chef. I do not blame him however as during this time the restaurant had filled up and there were approx 60 people in - again with only two staff members. We heard other people complaining about wait times and to be honest all the food that was coming out of the kitchen looked like microwave meals. When we paid our bill the staff member said he was leaving on Saturday and seemed very happy about this and said management had left them in the lurch - something to this effect. Not the staff on the floor’s fault whatsoever, they had no leadership or communication with the kitchen it seemed as the chefs were just throwing food out as fast as possible.”

“We came for Father's Day as a group of four at a pre-booked table. It was chaotic at best. Initially served warm cider which was sent back. They had none chilled so we had to choose something else, then they had no ice so drinks weren't great full stop. It took them over 20 minutes to take our food order. When the starters finally arrived the bread served with the bruschetta was still raw dough inside. Nobody came to check on us and no staff in vacinity, so when they came to clear our plates, prompted by the kitchen because the main meals were ready, I ended up with no starter (removed from bill). They didn't bring cutlery for the main course and we had to ask for it, dad got so fed up of waiting he took some from another table so her could eat his food. I had a steak knife dropped on me by the waitress. We had to chase up ordered drinks again because it didn't arrive after 15 minutes (by this point the restaurant was almost empty, but the staff seemed more concerned with tidying up than serving). Rare steak was ordered, medium steak was delivered and the pizzas were soggy in the middle. The person eating the steak and chips asked for vinegar and they brought balsamic vinegar not malt because nobody was really paying attention. Again nobody checked on us during main meals and staff generally absent. We would normally have stayed for coffee and dessert but we're just fed up at this point and wanted to leave. The managers response to complaints were that it was busy. Of course it's busy, it was Father's Day, that shouldn't mean the level of service suffers. The manager took 10% off the bill but it was marked as a Blue Light Card Discount which we would have had anyway as the owner of a blue light card but at this point we just had enough of complaining about the poor service so we paid the remaining bill and left. In addition, nothing on the menus is marked as Vegetarian or Vegan, so you just have to take a best guess at what will be okay to eat. Pasco's used to be great and now it's simply horrible, franchising restaurants often has this effect sadly.”

“Cottingham pascos Just a recent review on pascos, I was a regular at pascos when the old owners where in charge and I recently went in under the new ownership tonight and the night was terrible I didn’t see anyone in charge baring a girl that was working her socks doing everything pretty much herself. The staff had completely changed and the service was poor and slow it took 40 mins for 3 drinks this isn’t the first I’ve heard of this a friend recently went and said the same but I didn’t believe it but wow it was shocking. The food was still nice but service was terrible since the new owners. I’m not to sure who was in charge but for a busy Friday I would presume that a manager was on site and I saw no sign of any manager on. I also spoke to other people on tables and they said the same as me, really disappointed as this place use to be a good restaurant sadly it looks like the place is on a downhill road. Bring back the old owners for heaven sake.”
