About The Cheese Shed

The Cheese Shed is a coffee shop and cheese toastie café at Nettlebed Creamery, in Henley On Thames. Its toasties are made with cheese from the creamery, where the cheese and milk are both produced on site. The coffee is locally ground and served with the creamery's own unhomogenised organic milk. Soup of the day is usually available, and kefir smoothies are on the menu too. Customers order at the counter and take a number from the receipt, and the food is brought to the table. Indoor seating is in a barn. The Shed Shop inside the café sells the creamery's own organic produce, along with breads, eggs and honey from other suppliers. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return for the cheese toastie made with the creamery's own cheese, called tasty, excellent and simple yet delicious, and often paired with a coffee. Close behind come the pastries and cookie, the soup of the day, the green smoothie and ice cream, with walkers, cyclists and dog owners praising the barn seating, the blankets and the friendly staff. The farm shop selling the creamery's cheese, fresh sourdough and fig jelly draws a stop too. The main complaint is the toilets: one reviewer describes portaloos with no water or sanitiser and some without toilet roll, and another also calls them a drawback. Several wish the toastie came with extras such as ham, onions, tomatoes or tuna, since cheese is the only filling, and one son found it a bit too cheesy. Others mention paper cups and plates, no non-dairy milk for hot drinks, and a price that isn't cheap. One reviewer was given a free piece of cheese with a hot drink and toastie.

“Ideal place if you want a warm cheese sandwich. Tasty melted cheese. Simple yet delicious. The barn is very nice on a mild/warm day.”

“Very welcoming coffee or lunch stop, on a cycle ride or a walk, at this farm shop selling their own produce. Staff are very friendly. Coffee is excellent as is the toasted cheese sandwich. Eat in the barn if the weather is chilly but plenty of tables outside on sunny days. If you’ve never been you’ve really missed out.”

“We stopped for a break during a long walk. The sandwich was really tasty and service was quick. I guess it's easy when there is only 1 food item on the menu. Lovely place to relax and in our case a much needed sock change 😀 The price isn't cheap but in my good food and coffee. Well definitely be back”

“After years of meaning to come here, I managed to catch them open on a busy Saturday lunchtime. My son had their famous toastie and couldn’t manage to eat the whole thing, so I had some and thought it was delicious. He found it a bit too cheesy and was disappointed they didn’t offer a tuna version, or ham, would have been good too. We also shared a cookie and that was delicious! The green smoothie was also very nice. My son had an ice cream and, as a secondary comment, we were told the price of two scoops, which was very good value, and very tasty ice cream. I agree with the review about paper cups and plates- not very eco friendly given that they are on a farm and ‘on trend’, but given how busy it was- it’s understandable. I also agree that the porta-loos are absolutely abysmal! Disgusting! No water or sanitiser, not every loo had toilet roll! Not good at an eatery. I’m not even sure if it’s legal..?! We too went to the deli around the corner (making the most of our day trip) and it was a very different experience. Both places have expensive little farm shops. Overall, go for the toastie and food in general, but make sure you don’t need the toilet! The staff were fine and very efficient.”
