Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return for the carvery, praising it as filling, hot and generous, with all the trimmings and a free child meal that includes ice cream. A delivered Sunday roast with tender meat and well-cooked vegetables also earns praise, and several single out friendly staff, including a carver who keeps cleaning the food station and a server who made a toddler giggle. Children and the play area suit families, though one reviewer notes the noise. Outdoor seating gets a mention too. The complaints are sharper. One diner calls the carvery meat tough and gristly with a cold, flat Yorkshire pudding, and says a chef accused them of lying about used tickets. Another describes rubbery Pigs in Blankets, a thin piece of fish in the Farmhouse Fish and Chips and an oily battered sausage, plus a bar supervisor who curtly refused a soft drink refill. A third reports a rock-hard millionaire shortbread, then a replacement slice that arrived burnt, dry and crusty.

“My family and I went to the Half Penny Farm pub (Oldbury) for dinner. I'm sorry to say, it was not the experience we had hoped for. The first problem was attention to detail. At the time of booking, we made it clear that one of our party had mobility issues. The young gentleman who greeted us clearly didn't bother to read the booking notes, as the table we were shown to was less than ideal for someone who has difficulty walking. Second was the attitude of the bar supervisor. My son and I went to the bar to get some drinks. I was driving, so I asked for a refill soft drink (which I genuinely thought they did). Rather than a polite response such as “I’m sorry, we don't offer refills,” the bar supervisor just shook his head and said “No. Don't do ‘em.” He went on to inform me that soon, “nobody” would be serving refill soft drinks. How kind of him. We all had starters. Two were ok, but the Pigs in Blankets were very poor. The bacon was rubbery and the sausages weren't much better. The fact that they were quite bland seemed unimportant by comparison. The main courses arrived in good time, but by strange coincidence, we had the same issue. Two of them were fine, one was not. The Farmhouse Fish and Chips looked great on the menu, but what we ended up with was a far cry from what we expected. The piece of fish was so small and thin, it might as well have been a fish finger. The scampi was ok, as was the curry sauce, but the battered sausage was revolting. It tasted of nothing but oil/fat. We decided not to order anything else. As far as the review is concerned, have deducted one star for each negative point. Needless to say, we have no plans to return, but please don't take my word for it. Go along and try it for yourself.”

“We ordered a Sunday roast for delivery and, if I’m honest, we were a little sceptical as it was our first time having a Sunday dinner delivered. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The food arrived hot, well packaged, and tasted fantastic. The meat was tender, the vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the portions were generous. Most importantly, the whole family really enjoyed it, which is always a good sign! It genuinely felt like a proper homemade Sunday roast without the hassle of cooking. We’ll definitely be ordering again and would happily recommend it to others looking for a great Sunday dinner.”

“Took my elderly friend here today, she’s had an awful week after losing her little companion dog, We had soft drinks and cake, she ordered millionaire shortbread, so say it was hard was an understatement, you needed an hammer and chisel to get through it, I mentioned it to the manager who was doing something on a table behind us, he was very apologetic and offered to change it, my friend said it was ok and didn’t want to make a fuss, he said he would speak to the chef about it, and to collect another cake on the way out for her to take home, we both thanked him for his offer. On the way out we spoke to the staff and she chose another cake to take home. She had messaged me with a picture of the slice of cake she was given, I feel terrible. It’s burnt, dry and crusty. What was mentioned to be a good gesture didn’t turn out so well. I’m very disappointed to be honest, it was not a slice from the cake on show.”

“This is our favourite family pub for food. The carvery is just out of this world. My son only got turkey, carrots and broccoli. (His own choice) he wanted more carrots and I asked Raj who works there. She came back with a plate of broccoli, carrots and gravy for him. She was so kind to do this for him and very warm to talk to. Thank you Raj.”
