About China Garden Restaurant
China Garden Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant in Greenock, at 47-49 Cathcart St, run by a family and serving dishes from both the Pekinese and Cantonese traditions. Customer Review Summary
Satay sauce is the most divisive item: one reviewer calls it the best they have ever had, while another compares it to a handful of sand, with very dry chips alongside. Praise otherwise centers on value and range, with a three course meal and a starter, main and beer each described as cheap. Reviewers single out the sesame prawn toast, the Szechuan veg dish, egg rice and beef in black bean, and one says the kitchen turned a Singapore Noodle without the prawn when a requested spicy chicken noodle was not on the menu. Staff are called friendly and table service great, and one reviewer says the plenty of space suits large groups. The complaints are sharper than the praise is frequent. One group of five reports tiny portions, chicken balls that were mostly batter, a runny curry sauce, unmixed chow mein and no prawn crackers, and left hungry to buy more food. Another found the half aromatic duck and special fried rice lacking in flavour and freshness, and says the meat tasted like it would upset their stomach. One reviewer adds that the wine choices were lacking.

“Don’t know what satay sauce the person in these comments was trying but it was honestly what I’d imagine picking up a handful of sand and sticking it in my mouth would taste like, very very very very dry chips = okay…. The chicken was okay too but the sauce was horrendous”

“If you are very hungry do not order from here, portion sizes are TINY ordered for 5 people and were all left hungry still trying scavenge for food, chicken balls barely any chicken all batter, NO PRAWN CRACKERS 😡😡😡, curry sauce had a runny consistency , chow main is unmixed, chicken slopped on top of it like its uncared for. Was looking forward to this, we are now on our way to buy more food. I have a small appetite and im still hungry. Make sure if your ordering for a group order more then you expect. Did not get my moneys worth.”
