About The Mitre Inn

The Mitre Inn is a restaurant on Benedict St in Glastonbury, built around a bar at the centre of the inn. Steak is the main draw, served with chips in a bucket, and the cuts include sirloin with blue cheese sauce and rib eye. Vegan diners have more than one dish to choose from, along with vegan sides, and a falafel burger comes with coleslaw and chips. Table bookings are taken for the restaurant. Rooms are available for overnight stays.

Customer Review Summary

Steak is what diners return to most, with a sirloin with blue cheese sauce, a fillet, a rib eye and a lamb shank all described as cooked to liking and delicious. Close behind, vegan options draw praise, including a vegan main and sides that let diners build a plate, and a falafel burger with coleslaw and chips. The beer garden is called massive and impressive, with a mural and tables under parasols, and the bar is described as grand. Several reviewers call the staff friendly and efficient even on busy nights, and one notes a room ready for early check-in. The main complaint comes from a group that found the steak well cooked but the plate lacking, with a small portion of chips in a bucket and a handful of rocket, so they went to a kebab house afterward. They also felt staff were too stretched for good service. Another reviewer left after being told nothing could be done about a spoiled plate of chips, despite an earlier promise to change it.

“The Mitre Inn is warm, inviting with a very grand looking bar which commands the centre of the inn. The menu may look limited but it each item is done to such a high standard. I had the falafel burger which came with coleslaw and chips. The meal was so good I even ate the coleslaw (usually I send it to the bin!). The beer garden is equally impressive; massive, great range of tables with parasols, tables over hard cover and a lovely mural (incase you forgot you were in Glastonbury! This is a wonderful drop of normality amongst the archaic chaos of Glastonbury!”

“We've passed this place for over 20 years and never ventured in. What a lovely surprise now we have! It's instantly welcoming and having got our drinks from the bar and admired the surroundings, walked through into the garden. The no smoking tables are near the door so no fighting through a cloud to your table. We decided to eat and both had a fillet steak at £20 each, washed down with a red shiraz on a beautiful summers evening. We will definitely return. We understand they also have The Crown in Glastonbury.......looking forward to trying that one too.”

“I really can't say enough good things about The Mitre Inn. I absolutely loved my stay. The room was lovely and so well appointed, with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The restaurant was also delicious and even on the busiest nights they made sure to give me a table. I specifically want to shout out the manager of the Inn, Tom, who went above and beyond at every stage to make sure I had a great stay. He let me check in early since my room was already ready when I arrived in the morning and even after I had checked out he gave me a space to change for an event I was attending later that evening. Then, when I forgot something in the room, he offered to post it to me. It wasn't just the place itself that was lovely (and it was - and so centrally located!) but I felt so well cared for and relaxed just being there. I will definitely be staying here again on my next visit to Glastonbury!”

“Great venue with excellent beer garden sadly our experience was spoiled by a lack of staff (meaning staff members were obviously to busy to care about customer service) and a disappointing meal 😞 The steak itself was beautifully cooked but the rest of the plate was sadly lacking. 12 small chips presented in a pretentious bucket and a handful of rocket meant our group went to the kebab house down the road as soon as we left. I expect to feel fed after spending £35 on a meal ☹️ Not angry just disappointed .”

“I live in Glastonbury and eat out quite often, and I’m never disappointed when I book a table at the Mitre. My partner is vegan, and I must say the Mitre Ihas really thought about their vegan options and there’s quite a few, Unlike some places where they just add one token vegan option. Quality of food is exceptional and it’s very good value for money Well done Mitre team Jon and Louise”
