Quick info
About The Ivy
The Ivy is a seafood restaurant at 27 Main St in the village of Bothwell, Glasgow. Waiters provide table service, so diners order from their seats rather than at a counter. Starters come ahead of mains, with mussels and duck among the choices. Steak and duck sit alongside the seafood on the menu, and the kitchen takes requests on doneness for steak, from rare to well done. Lunch visitors can use Groupon deals, which the restaurant accepts.

Steaks split reviewers: some call them beautifully cooked, exactly as wanted, while others describe a chateaubriand badly cooked and a very well done steak arriving with blood. Praise also covers the food and courteous, helpful staff, including for fussy teenagers. Complaints centre on small portions, overcooked duck, chips instead of fries, a long wait for starters and loud music. One reviewer got a 20% discount after complaining.

“Only people in the place for my birthday, bottle of wine 2 starters, 2 steaks no desserts, took there time getting there with no one else to serve, cost my friend nearly £100 & this was afternoon not night, absolutely mortified when she told me wks later, I would have made my feelings clear if I'd known at the time”

“Very good. A very pleasant place to be, and food was great. My teenage kids are fussy eaters, but both enjoyed there food. Staff courteous, polite and helpful.”

“Even though we booked a table in advance we waited for 30 min by the door . The restaurant feels like a teenagers bar , tables are small and too close to each other....the music was so loud that we could not hear each other or the waiter.....the food is less than average, it took over 30 min for the starters to arrive after we ordered. We ordered muscles and duck to start the muscles were ok but the duck was over cooked. As a main we ordered chateaubriand but what they served was a bad cooked piece of steak....we ordered fries but got chips (frozen packet Ones). The only good thing about this place was the older Italian waiter who was very helpful .....at the end we complained and received 20% discount...that was a nice gesture but did not compensate the terrible experience....we were expecting to dine in what we believed was a high end restaurant but it is way below the level of restaurants like the butcher shop, grill on the corner or Porter & Rye....my recommendation is to avoid”
